Defense In Good Shape. Next Up, Offense?

As bad as things looked on offense, they looked the exact opposite on defense, in particular on the defensive line. While Justin Harrell looked over matched a few times, he more than held his own in his professional debut. But the star of the night was Cullen Jenkins. Ted Thompson gets a lot of grief, but he did the right thing in locking this kid up this past offseason. And this speaks to Thompson's method in general. He is spotting the talent on the team, and getting them signed to long tern deals. To this point, he's concentrated on the defensive side of the ball. But as the young talent on the offensive side of the ball starts to emerge, no doubt you'll see Thompson sign them to long term deals as well. Will it get the Packers to the Super Bowl this year? No. But it will ensure they're in the running for one for years to come. It's a methodical, boring way to build a team, but it's the way the show is being run in Green Bay now, and Packer fans need to come to grips with that.
