Darren Perry Added To Staff

The Packers have added Darren Perry to their defensive staff, according to Greg Bedard. He will coach the safeties and, Bedard speculates, Joe Whitt Jr, the other holdover from Bob Sanders' staff, will coach the cornerbacks. (Here's a thought - Perry spent the last two years coaching the defensive backs for the Oakland Raiders, including Nnamdi Asomugha, without question the best young corner in the game. I'm officially starting a rumor that the Packers landing Perry puts them in pole position to land Asomugha in free agency.)

I know several commenter's and myself were taking shots at such an expansive coaching staff yesterday, and I do agree that NFL staffs have gotten a bit out of control. But McCarthy's staff isn't anything special in this regard and has nothing on Sherman's staff which had up to 14 assistant coaches at one point. And yes, my quip about Lombardi's staff in the comments yesterday was just that - a quip. One need look no further than what can only be described as the incredibly disappointing return tenure of Joe Gibbs to the Redskins to know that just because you are a legendary, Hall of Fame Coach doesn't guarantee that the game can't move past you. (But just to point out - Gibbs had a ridiculous number of assistant coaches as well in SnyderLand. Perhaps if he had gone old-school and kept it to about 5 or 6 he would have been more successful the second time around... ;) )

Alright, now this is freaking ridiculous. If they announce they are hiring a noseguard coach, I am quitting the internet.

Probably not a noseguard coach but perhaps a coach for gunners on special teams and a holders coach for PATs and FGs
I don't really care who they hire to be honest. I'm just ready to reload in the draft and FA and get to camp. I'll be stir crazy by the time we get to April

Who cares, really? There's no coach salary cap.

If you find a guy who can help, make up a title for him and then bleed his knowledge.

So the Raiders have yet to put the franchise tag on Asomugha? Stupid move for Al Davis, great move for us if we steal him away.

Another piece of the puzzle Capers is putting together. I'm with Franklin, if it is going to help, add as many as needed.
