Cory's Corner: Packers Against The World

Now isn't the time to doubt this team.

This has been one of the most topsy-turvy seasons of recent memory.

The Packers have looked like a toddler trying to find its first step and now they look like a team that has a real chance at a playoff berth.

Yet, many don’t think the Packers have a prayer against the defending Super Bowl champs at home.

Come on now. If any year was the right year to knock out the champs, it’s this year. There are a plethora of average teams, but there are zero elite teams. The Chiefs do not have an elite team, in fact, the only aspect of their team that is very good is the defense.

Kansas City might have a maestro at quarterback but the receiving corps is so thin and tight end Travis Kelce hasn’t looked like vintage Kelce (sorry Swifties), the Chiefs are very beatable.

This is not the time to put on your doubting pants. Believe that Jordan Love can extend enough plays with Kansas City’s blitzing and powerful defense. Believe that Anders Carlson can be perfect on all of his extra points. Believe that Rashan Gary can drive Patrick Mahomes absolutely bonkers.

From what we’ve seen with so many frustrating three-and-outs, it’s pretty amazing that the Packers are even flirting with a playoff berth. The Packers lost four in a row and were left for dead by just about everyone across the nation.

But this team kept fighting. They kept scratching and clawing. They never gave up and now they have a date with the Kansas City Swifties. I’m sure NBC will reference her at least 10 times during Sunday night’s broadcast — which will drive the home fans nuts.

The Packers can beat the Chiefs. And the reason is because the Packers beat the Lions, the same Lions team that beat the Chiefs in Week 1 at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Packers just need to follow the same template: Be aggressive and take chances in the passing game down the field. Throw in the early downs. Don’t forget about misdirection and use Jayden Reed as a multi-use Swiss Army Knife.

Everyone in the country may want the Packers to lose because the Chiefs and a certain singer have become the darlings of the NFL.

Being an outsider is actually a pretty interesting idea. If the Packers can beat the Chiefs on Sunday, they will be some of the biggest outsiders in the NFL. Some people may actually hate the Packers simply because they beat the world’s most famous pop star’s favorite team.

But the Packers shouldn’t care about any of that. This team might have the deepest collection of receivers in the NFL and they haven’t even played their best yet.

So don’t doubt this team. They will surprise you.

As far as I’m concerned, put Simone Biles in the booth next to her and there’d be no reason to look at Swift.

You really expect Mrs. Owens to be in the same suite as Taylor Swift? Being at the game is one thing, but ...

I agree the Pack can beat KC.
Two things need to happen.
1). Ball control. Make 1st downs on the ground. No ground game, moving the chain they are DOA.
2). Continue the attack on defense. Smash mouth & good ass kicking. Aggressive gang tackling. Stop KC's ball control.

They can do it. Just depends which Packer team shows up. Time of the season to put the hammer down. Build on confidence & momentum. GPG!!!!

I hate to bring this up but - Andy Reid is pretty damn good head coach and it is time for legitimate Super Bowl contenders to make a run for the playoffs. Can we say the same things about the Packers?

Would love to see the Packers pull one out, but need to stay the course: want to see this Packers team build on last week and compete with a high-end team.

If they can string together games at the level of Thanksgiving, that will speak volumes.

I'd love to see a competitive game Dobber even if the Packers come up short. I would be just fine with that outcome.

I'm not expecting a smooth continuation of the level of play against Detroit. This team is too young not to have some ups and downs over the next six games and I really don't have a great deal of confidence in this coaching staff to provide the leadership and game plans to keep this team playing at a high level. I would love to be wrong but..... The next few weeks will be interesting.

Reid is one of the best, his leadership is great, and he doesn't panic.
Today's Chiefs are kinda' like the Golden State Warriors of a few years ago, "Hey, this is the regular season, we'll be here for the playoffs!"

A win against the Chiefs would be a huge confidence booster to this young team. We all knew it would be a rough first half of the season with a new QB and most wide receivers and tight ends. Packers need to find a way to run the ball without Aaron Jones. Not impossible but using Reed and others might do it. On defense, I hope to see the same intensity they brought to the Lions. Alexander, Campbell, Savage, and Ford are back which will help. Close game and hoping to see Pack on top. 24-20

Would love to see a win, and it's great to see some guys back, but they'll be rusty.
I doubt Joe Barry has a clue on how to stop Mahomes, Kelce and Pacheco and, can MLF come up with a scheme against this defense?
I haven't seen anything to give me any confidence.

My biggest fear is Pacheco.
Barry won't be able to - and honestly won't even try to - scheme anything to stop him in the pass game.
That means the first defender on the spot will have to take him straight down. Doesn't sound likely to happen.
I'm optimistic, but my glass is only slightly above half full.
That's why our offense and ST'S need to carry a big pail of water tomorrow night.
They will!
Pack 26 - chefs, sorry - busboys - 24!
GPG!

Well Stated and represents much of my thoughts, CJj and Fred. They HAVE been fighters throughout the season. I believe this game Does matter for our young team... Not only because of the position they now possess in the NFC, but more so as another confidence booster, building upon recent successes. You can see this team progressing nicely.

Although much attention is rightfully being paid to our emerging offense, if the defense can give us a similar performance to last week's, we will be IN this game. Continually harassing Mahomes, is a must. Our DB speed is a concern to me in this one. However, Jordan's recognition of where the blitz is coming from and the line (including an extra blocker (TE or RB) buying him time to take advantage of that blitz, will be so important. Fred is right, we need to run the ball enough to make them pay attention. Currently though, my guess is that there will be a few large gains to be had by using our RBs and TEs in the pass game, and of course, the Watson/Reed connections will again play a huge role.

The team needs to compete, physically and mentally. Play aggressively on offense and defense and go out and beat these guys!

Time to shock the world. The Packers are playing with house money. They have nothing to lose, and can therefore play loose and easy. Take away Kelce, and you have a receiving corps that is probably worse than the Packers. If the offense line can hold off the pass rush, and allow Love to throw shorter passes with receivers getting some YAC, a "move the chains, eat up the clock, grind out long drives" offense, keeping the KC defense on the field, and consistently get first downs on third and short. Well, that is the dream scenario. One game at a time.

I have been thinking this might a game to keep a spy on Mahomes and Walker with his speed would be a good choice for this assignment. Stop Kelce for any big gains and with the combo a win I would think would surely be reachable!

As impressive as the win over the Lions was, this will be a statement game. KC is by far and away, the best defense they've faced all season long. Expect Spagnulo to blitz the crap out of Love like he did last time Love started. Only thing is, Love will be better prepared.

Keys to win:
1. Execute on 1st & 2nd down - easier said than done, but getting into 3rd and longs against this defense is a recipe for disaster. They're too good.

2. Limit explosive plays - the NFL is about explosive plays. Obviously, the Chiefs have been well known for it. Mahomes is going to chuck it deep at least a few times to test our safeties, who aren't exactly the best in the world, but have played better as of late.

3. Packers coaches, have a plan to stop Matt Nagy - IMO, part of the reason the Chiefs haven't been as good is because Matt Nagy is now calling the plays. We all saw that in Chicago for several years and how that worked out. Of course, Nagy has Mahomes at his disposal, so while they're not terrible, they're also not lighting up teams either.
So if the Chiefs come out with 3 or 4 wide receivers, and the Packers respond by playing nickel, understand that this is a copycat league: the Steelers spread the Packers out wide, the Packers played nickel, and then the Steelers punched them in the mouth in the 1st half by running it up the middle. Pachecho runs hard. Be ready for this.

4. Play mistake free - you know, the usual fundamentals: protect the ball, limit penalties. It's elementary to every game, but we all saw how good this team can be if they play like they did against the Lions. This team has beaten itself far too many times this season with idiotic penalties.

Thanks! There's no margin for error against the Chiefs. They're a contender each season because they're very well rounded. I don't want to hear Nags saying "the Green Bay Packers defeated the Green Bay Packers" after the game.

If I see the Packers corner backs line up 10 yards off the first time the Chiefs are 3rd and 2, I'm heading for the refrigerator.

Emmanuel Wilson!

I almost forgot about him after I gave up on MLF actually playing him. Gave me a hunch , hope to see him Sunday. Perfect forgotten player , with no real tape of to unleash on an unsuspecting KC team!

I also think Jaire is going to want to get into MVSs head. I don't know. We'll see. It would be fun to beat them in Lambeau. They can do this! GPG!
