Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - 2019 Game 10, Packers - Panthers

The weekly Packers Brain Drain from Jersey Al.

Snow Globe: If you've ever had the pleasure of watching the Packers play in Lambeau when it's snowing, then perhaps you too have been transported to another dimension for a few hours. There's something magical about it - no matter how cold, you experience this warm comforting feeling inside. As you look up at the falling snow, glistening from the Lambeau stadium lights, your world temporarily is boundried by the confines of Lambeau Field. Nothing happening in the "outside world" seems to matter or dares to even enter your consciousness. At least this is what I experienced in 2008 when the Packers and Seahawks met in the playoffs. After two 1st quarter fumbles by Ryan Grant that led to Seattle TDs. Brett Favre and the Packers pummeled the Seahawks on the way to a 42-20 victory. Many times during breaks in play I just looked up at the flurry-filled sky and thought, if there is a God, he's in here today.

Here's a picture I took that day:

3rd down bombs: In case you don't know, this is a long-standing pet peeve of mine. It just happened to rear it's ugly head three times during this last game, so I'm bringing it up again. Be aware I have nothing against taking shots downfield, for me it's all about the down and game situation. The first one occurred two and a half minutes into the second quarter with the Packers losing 10-7. It was third and 12 from the their own 23 yard line. Rodgers attempts a deep throw to MVS which is incomplete. This early in the game and 12 yards needed, I'm perfectly ok with it in this spot.

The next one came with two and a half minutes left in the third quarter. The Packers were at the Carolina 23, facing a third and 10 with a 21-10 lead. They were on the tenth play of a methodical drive that had started on their own 20. Rodgers attempts a deep throw to Adams, which is incomplete and Adams is called for OPI. I normally wouldn't have an issue with this one except for the fact Rodgers had just done the same thing the play before on 2nd and 10. So instead of using two plays to gain 10 yards and keep driving towards the goal line and seven points, the Packers had to settle for a field goal.

The last one occurred with nine and a half minutes left in the game. It was third and six at the Carolina 49 yd line with the Packers leading 24-16. Empty backfield, trips to the right. Davante Adams sprints seven yards and spins around. The nearest defender is yards behind him and it's a linebacker. Rodgers looked right at Adams but didn't let it go.This couldn't have been an easier first down. He ends up having to scramble out of the pocket and ignores Adams a second time at the sideline to heave a prayer to Lazard. Incomplete pass. My thinking is that keeping the drive going eats up more clock and any points makes it a two possession game. Instead, the drive stalls. For me, I just try to keep keep moving the chains and secure the win. Instead, you all know what they had to endure at the end with a one possession game. "Easy" is a dirty word to Rodgers, sometimes.

Left some plays... After the game, Rodgers lamented that the Packers offense had  "left some plays out there." Of course what he means by that is that he didn't hit any of those long bombs he loves.

Kumerow / Lazard: This offseason, I made a prediction. I wrote that Jake Kumerow would become Rodgers' new Jordy Nelson - not so much in talent or style, but it terms of trust. Being that guy that Rodgers could depend on being where he should be or finding the open hole in the secondary when Rodgers is in trouble. As improbable as this would have seemed, it looks to me that Allen Lazard will end up being that guy.

Kenny Clark: What a resurgence by the big guy. I tried to give him some love in this space last week and he silenced the critics in this game.

Assisting the RB: For the second time this year, we saw an offensive lineman attempt to pull a running back over the goal line. There was a successful execution of this illegal move in the Denver game by Dalton Risner. It was attempted again in the Carolina game on the last play of the game. I guess NFL referees just won't call it or don't care.

Delay of game: How in the world do you get a delay of game coming out of a time out you took to avoid getting a delay of game? Second time this season Rodgers has accomplished this seemingly impossible task.

I guess Al and I are watching the Packers through the same pair of glasses...

The 2nd "deep ball" attempt about made me come unglued. Both of the passes on 2nd and 3rd down after that drive featuring Jamal Williams taking his turn having his way with the Carolina defense left me screaming 2 shorts sentences at my TV...WHY??? Or...RUN THE BALL!!!! That was all I could say after those passes. Rodgers was SO GREAT at continuing to use what was working while Adams was out, taking what the defense gave him, keeping the chains moving without those deep shots. Against a team like the 49ers, Vikings, or Saints in the playoffs, for example, Rodgers HAS to take those "Easy" throws to keep the chains moving.

The delay of game penalties... Are you F***ing kidding me Rodgers? Next time that happens the ENTIRE offense needs to put their hands on their hips and GLARE at Rodgers, just like he does to a WR when Rodgers feels the WR screwed up. These last 2 weeks have me a bit concerned about Rodgers. GONE was the QB who had a perfect passer rating just a few weeks before. Rodgers HAS to remember this isn't the normally LOADED team at the WR position he had for the first several years of his career as a starter. THIS is a team with Adams, Jones, and several role players who are really playing well. BUT he HAS to take the "Easy" stuff whenever it's there.

BUT the Packers are 8-2 and have a Bye Week..... This team has looked a bit tired and rightfully so after 10 weeks of football, especially the defense. Time for the team to recharge. Hopefully, they'll have the travel schedule worked out so the team doesn't have a repeat performance of week 9 against the Chargers. Also it would be pretty cool to see a few designed plays for our NEW #87 Sternberger. EVERY other team seems to get something out of rookie TE's. I get he hasn't been out there but common man...The kid has SKILLS!

GO PACK GO!

Especially when it means winning the game. The third and 6 situation was the topper.

3rd. down bombs, running the play clock down, taking delay of game penalties and my own peeve, barking to get the opposition to jump offsides. Most if not all of the 12 false start penalties [unofficial] have come with Aaron barking to get the defense to jump. I think it has outlived its usefulness. Teams have caught on and when you get you own players to jump it is time to shelve it .

Al, This is always one of my favorite columns and I've got to agree with all of your "Polluted Mindset" (please, keep the name) column comments. When they showed the replay of the run attempt by Carolina I turned to my wife and told her that even had the RB gotten in the lineman trying to pull him over was an illegal move. QB1's long ball over a sure additional down was frustrating to watch happening yet again. I love the picture of Driver and his 10,000 watt smile!

Totally agree with Al on Rodger's fetish with the 3rd down long shot. The numbers must show that these are low percentage shots. The numbers must also show that he is under-throwing many of his receivers. The under-throws are a troubling sign.

While I am not from Missouri, I still have a "show me" attitude about this team. I know that we have some persistent gaps on this team which to date we have out-run. I could let some of these fears go if Rodgers and this offense really put together a complete game. With our offense hitting on all 8 cylinders, all the other deficiencies would be minimized. Maybe this is the new Rodgers and we are seeing "the best that he can be". I don't think so - so I am waiting for the production and consistency from this offense.

You are not going to see a consistent offensive game from Rogers. He is the problem with our stuttering offense. He is not using his skill players properly and he does not seen the field like he used to. This team should be undefeated if Rogers would play smarter and then they would also be a true contender which at this point they are not. It falls squarely on Rogers shoulders.

Snow Globe:
I am very biased but watching snowy games on TV it just looks different at Lambeau. It is truly special. Every picture I have seen from the Panthers game is nothing short of spectacular!

3rd down bombs:
I completely agree with your pet peeve on this. I have a similar feeling about it. To me its a time and place for it. I also agree that with the first one I am completely good with that. I wish MVS would have been more aggressive for the ball and went up and got it. I assume he didn't know where the Safety was to break it up.

I feel like Rodgers has been better this year about not doing 3rd down bombs, but he has lapses. There is a time and a place for it. Plain and simple. He needs to do a better job of understanding this.

Left some plays:
There were definitely some missed opportunities. Rodgers didn't have his best game. Rodgers missed a few throws which could have been bigger plays had he not thrown it short.

Kumerow / Lazard:
Lazard has definitely became that guy. I feel like there is just some sort of disconnect between him and MVS. Allison has regressed. EQ is on IR. So Kumerow and Lazard are the guys that need to be the trusted guys for him.
I really like Lazard though. He is big strong and fast. I mean his ability to push a guy 10 yards and making him fall down was impressive especially when he barely touched him. Imagine what he can do to a guy when he wants to use all of his strength.

Kenny Clark:
Clark looked a lot more explosive! Hopefully with a week off he will be able to continue what we saw. Hopefully he is getting healthy now. If he plays like that, and we have the Smiths. look out!

Assisting the RB:
When I saw that I was waiting for a flag. It was clearly a penalty that wasn't called. I'm just happy he didn't get in.

Delay of game: How in the world do you get a delay of game coming out of a time out you took to avoid getting a delay of game? Second time this season Rodgers has accomplished this seemingly impossible task.
Great question. Rodgers clearly did not have a good game. He needs to improve as well. I think the bye came at a good time. They need to refocus for the remainder of the year!

The synopsis I take away from here is reaffirming what I thought on Sunday.
Rodgers, as great as he is, has not been great when it comes to deep ball accuracy.

We remember how Tramon was beaten in Jan 2015 in OT in Seattle, with the season on the line. That wasn't bad coverage but it WAS a perfect throw by Wilson. Russell has had some other perfect beauties late in games

Rodgers totally missed a way more open Greg Jennings in OT in Arizona Jan of 2010. He's missed a lot of deep balls to guys who have a step or 2.

When comparing Favre & Rodgers, I gotta give #4 the edge in deep ball accuracy.

Rodgers consistently underthrows the deep balls. He's never been able to hit MVS in stride, and even on the one long reception in this game to Adams, he made Adams have to wait. It's not an arm strength issue, it's a timing issue.

Also with regard to Russell Wilson, according to Colin Cowherd today, Wilson gets the most of his pass catchers even when they're not especially talented.
I'm wondering if Wilson is the kind of quarterback who does really take what the defense gives him and maximizes the potential of his offense. He goes deep when it's there, and effectively, but doesn't force it.
Maybe Wilson is the ultimate team guy who really does facilitate his teammates excelling. In doing so, Wilson himself excels, and is the stuff of MVPs.
Perhaps Rodgers needs to take a page from Wilson.
As great as Rodgers has been for the Packers, he risks making the latter part of his career something of a letdown if he stubbornly resists coaching and tries to play hero ball.
Paradoxically it seems the biggest moments for Rodgers this season have come when he is sincerely trying to focus on the little things.

I have to agree with you SS...RARELY do we see Rodgers just drop one in the receivers out-stretched hands without the WR either slowing down or coming to a damn near complete stop.

The 1st down pass after the interception by Williams SHOULD have been a TD. Adams had his man beat by at least 3 or 4 steps but Adams had to completely slow down and Jackson was able to knock the ball out of Adams hands. Had he led him just a shade more or even led him a tad to the right sideline, Adams wouldn't have to slow down so much allowing the CB to get back into the play.

There were times when Rodgers lack of discipline ready hurt this team in the second half. As you pointed out Al, his taking shots in a one possession game could bite the Packers down the road. Even if the Panthers were down two starters in the secondary, there was no way they were allowing Rodgers the 40+ with a cover 2 and deep quarters coverage. Plus, the weather made the field pretty slippery and slick by the fourth quarter. Both secondary's were dropping 10 yards deep on the snap due the field conditions. The 10-15 beyond the LOS was open, he did not take it. That may be a problem down the road for MLF, I hope not...

It was my Birthday Sunday , my parents and 2 of my brothers were visiting me here in California. It's was close to 90 degrees all weekend. As we watched the game and the beautiful snow gracing Lambeau field , we all wanted to trade in our sunny weather to be home sitting in the Lambeau bowl . Like you said Al, there is nothing like that experience.

On a separate note, it puzzles me To witness our Defense with Alexander, King, Savage, Amos and Williams in the secondary - and the Smith brothers rushing the QB - giving up massive passing yards a game. I realize a lot of these yards are due to our ILBs , but there's also to many completions to WRs with loose coverage or just wide open receivers with no one around them. I don't get it. I hope this gets cleaned up during the bye . I also hope Greene can return soon to play hybrid ILB to help clean up the completions to TEs and RBs.

It must be that the "bend but don't break " philosophy has crept into the secondary; or maybe it's a fear of illegal contact and interference penalties. Wide open receivers are not going to be missed by NFL quarterbacks. When the secondary gives up that much cushion, not only is the pass completed, but the receivers have the opportunity to make a move and gain additional YAC. The Packers' secondary definitely needs to play more aggressively (without getting carried away).

As in past seasons, it's highly frustrating to watch opponents catch passes while running wild and free -- while our offense can't seem to do the same.
So arises a big and burning question: How much of this is poor play calling; how much of it poor route running; and how much of it is Rodgers not hitting the open man?

Swisch - It is a combination of all 3 and sometimes it is also a matter of good defensive play. Then there are the plays that work perfectly which no one brings up because opinions and comments are primarily based on the results of the play and/or the final score of the game. For example, no one has brought up the excellent execution on the 13 yard TD run by Aaron Jones. Why? Because apparently that is supposed to happen on every play. That appears to be the expectation of many of the posters here.

Additionally, no one says it is a bad play call when Rodgers extends a play and makes a perfect throw on the run for a first down, or a big gain or a TD. But if the pass is incomplete it must be Rodgers fault just like if he is sacked it's because Rodgers held the ball too long. Not that the defense had the receivers covered or pass rushers came through unblocked. Sometimes the other team deserves some credit and sometimes our guys including Rodgers don't execute very well. Just like no one questions running for a 1st down on a 3rd down play when the run is successful, but if it fails it was a bad play call. Second guessing is easy especially after the play or after the game.

The fact that we are 8-2 and currently possess the #2 seed in the NFC doesn't appear to matter. But the fact that we have a delay of game penalty or call a timeout in a game that we won seems to matter more. Or the fact that we have very few turnovers so far this season, that doesn't seem to matter either. Maybe Rodgers should be throwing picks all over the place like Favre did and then many of the posters here would appreciate what we have in Rodgers. Then again maybe not.

"Amateurs focus on play calling, professionals focus on the execution." Mike Holmgren.

Enjoy the bye. Thanks, Since '61

You make a good point, Since '61, for us to keep in perspective.
It does seem, though, that a lot of good fans here have seen something disconcerting in Rodgers neglecting the easier throws that move the chains -- in wins and losses.
Granted, Rodgers generally avoids the interceptions; but missing out on an easy throw for a third-down conversion, forcing a punt, is something like a turnover.
It seems most of us as fans here are trying to keep things mostly positive; but it also seems better to point out the flaws when we're winning than waiting for a couple of losses.
Anyway, the byes are hard for me as a fan; but I'm glad for the team to get a break. I'm even wondering if we should go back to having two byes a season with such a grueling sport.
All the best to you, Since '61, and thanks so much for the response.

(1) Those long bombs are frustrating because they end drives and over works our defense. However, the 50 yarder to Lazard would have been a TD if he threw it 5 yards to the right. (2) The aiding the run rule will be enforced when a player gets seriously injured, which is the reason for the rule in the first place. (3)The timing for the bye couldn't come at a better time. The six playoff teams are set barring a disaster. A home playoff game and I'm on my way for my first trek to the great Lambeau Field. I'm 64 so time could be a factor.

Right Pete, if he had just flattened out the pass and more to the right and Lazard has an easy TD. Also on that play, Lazard is initially very much open on the left sideline, but in Rodgers defense he was looking to his right at the time, then came the rush.

Rodgers propensity to hold onto the ball has driven me nuts. Not just recently, but for years now. He could be Bradyesque with multiple SB rings if he were just willing to play within the system. He has a ton of talent, but is convinced he's the smartest person in the stadium and knows better than anyone else.

There have been too many three and outs. Sure would help the D if he put more emphasis on sustaining drives.

It seems like every time he plays the quick-timing, rhythm offense he has success. Yet, for some reason he abandons it and goes back to his old habits. I've come to the conclusion he's NEVER going change so we as fans better hope he hits on a number of the small percentage big plays and that's enough to put the team over the top. And he needs to do it throughout a playoff run.

And don't get me going about running the clock down to or nearly to zero on almost every play. Next time he comments on how the teams not in a rhythm, I'm going to say - "Well yeah, duh!"

Mojo, it seems you're right on with your take on Rodgers -- although I have hope that he can and will adapt his ways.
I agree that Lazard was open deep with the right kind of pass -- but in that situation of the game, and with snowy conditions, why not hit Davante with the much easier pass that clinches the win?
My hunch is that we agree on the answer, along with almost all of the fans here at CHTV. Let's hope and pray that Rodgers gets it for his good and ours.

Al,

I was a little surprised you didn't comment on MLF's decision to go for seven at the end of the first half. I would be interested in hearing your take on that.

For what it is worth, I thought it was a bonehead, rookie coach mistake. Given the weather conditions (points are usually at a premium in snow games) and the potential momentum switch to Carolina (when they stuffed the fourth down attempt) I thought MLF took a huge gamble giving up a near certain FG.

Your thoughts?

I didn't mention it because I was OK with it. They had driven from their own 10, thought they had a TD on the pass to Graham that was overturned and emotion likely took over. Having complained about the too conservative approach by MM for many years, I'm giving this coach the freedom to be aggressive and let the chips fall where they may. At least for now, lol.

i'm scratching my head wondering where the back shoulder throw has gone. with the tight coverage being played on receivers it would seem to be a perfect play. when Adams was streaking down the sideline with the defender step for step with him and not looking for the ball, it would have been a perfect time for a back shoulder throw. it worked a ton in the past and i'm wondering why it isn't done anymore.

I get frustrated as well at those long throws when the opportunity to move the chains was there for the taking. Unfortunately, we are seeing AR under-throw his receivers at an increasing rate especially when he is throwing from awkward positions. Signs of the times, I suppose. Speaking of signs, the beauty and intricacy of creation shouts of the existence of God. Jersey Al, I encourage you to read Psalm 19.

I understand the move the chain sentiment, and Rodgers has been guilty of looking off the underneath routes. However, I was in the endzone and had an All 22 view, Carolina essentially took away the intermediate routes with zone concepts. I was behind the play to Lazard, "The Bomb" and if I remember correctly, Jamal Williams ran a Texas route and Allison an out, both were covered and could not get open on second reaction plays. It was pretty clear Carolina wanted Kuechley and a box safety taking away the RB pass. Defenses are very cognizant of Jones and Williams as receivers. They would rather Rodgers take a lower percentage deep shot. This was actually the correct read imo, on that play. This is also why the packers ran RPO and quick passes to WRs on screens. The Panthers defense was not giving up intermediate catch and run opportunities, they let us dink and dunk or take shots. Jimmy Graham exploited this on his long catch.

Not if you look at the video above, especially when Dusty pauses the video. All Rodgers had to do was a quick throw to Adams as he turns around. Would have been like playing catch in your backyard. First down, keep the drive going.

I disagree Al - Keuchly was 2 yards away, and not backpedaling, and if you throw before Davante has turned around, it's hard to expect him to be able to come back to the ball. It looks like a risky throw to me, and if Davante does have to come back to the ball, he's short of the sticks.

Nope. If you look closer, when the video resumes after the pause, Keuchley takes a step or two backwards, eventually stopping when he's 3 yds behind Adams. If Rodgers throws it right as Adams turns around, it's an easy uncontested completion.

I don't have a problem taking shots down the field, in fact I believe that you need to take deep shots as a way to keep the secondary honest. However, my pet peeve is that the Packers often go with an empty backfield which tells the defense that they don't even need to think about a possible running play. I especially dislike it when they empty the backfield on a 3rd and short regardless of the length of the pass.

As for Rodgers throwing deep with open receivers underneath my theory is that he has never had a coach, specifically a Head Coach, say to him "No more rocket balls Please!!!" I would have enjoyed seeing what Mike Holmgren would have done with a QB like Rodgers. Even without Holmgren Rodgers has become an HOFer, with him Rodgers would be even better, if that's possible, and the Packers would have more SBs.

At this point in Rodger's career it's too late for MLF to try to reign him in on some of these plays. Rodgers is going to do what he is going to do. As long as the team is winning MLF is not going to take a chance at pissing him off. The reality is that he is still playing smart football, doesn't hurt the team with poor decisions and is utilizing the RBs more in both the running and passing game.

Agree on Kenny Clark he was a beast in this game.

The delay of games are not always on Rodgers. They are more likely due to the coach's failure to get a play in on time. After a timeout it is more likely due to players not lined up correctly and Rodgers needing to move them around to get them set properly. Also, I would rather have Rodgers call a timeout than run a broken play which could result in a loss of yardage or turnover. It's all frustrating but I'd rather have these mistakes than poor ball security.

Assisting the RB has always been a penalty at every level of football that I have ever been involved with until recently in the NFL. Why it's not called I have no idea, but then again the league doesn't know what a catch is or a tackle or PI any longer either. Thanks, Since '61

I agree that we are seeing Rodgers regress with not taking the way throw and waiting too long to snap.

As for the Carolina offensive lineman that tried to help McCaffrey across the goal line on the last play, I think he helped us more than hurt us - McCaffrey lost all his forward momentum when he ran into the guy, plus he couldn't extend the ball since the olineman was in the way. Without their lineman being in the way I think McCaffrey probably scores.

If I recall, it was Martinez coming in at the very end and stopping him.

Based on the above video, AR made a reasonable decision as Lazard was behind defender and open. Problem is, AR was "writing a check his body can't cash" - anymore, it seems. He has been under throwing deep balls all year. The prima donna better get with the winning program.

People say "game manager" like it's not a good thing. It is. I actually think LeFleur and Rodgers have done a real good job of managing games this year, but that back-to-back stuff had me scratching my head, too. I like going for the knockout, but you've got to keep the offense on the field and burn the clock down more.

8-2 and on the bye. We've had remarkably good health and it looks like nearly every one of our preferred starters on offense and defense will be rested and reasonably healthy going in the 49er game. I don't think you could have reasonably hoped or wished for more.

Rodgers is throwing about 35 passes/game instead of 40. That's 5 less exposures to a hit every game, and that's 50 by this point in the season. And he's healthy now for the stretch run , and he has healthy players around him. The Packers are in a very, very good spot right now.

After the 49er game, we've got weaklings at NY and at home against Washington and Chicago. We should be no worse than 11-3 when we meet the Vikings. Winning the division is still the goal and it looks like we might have to win, in Minnesota, to secure that.

If we do lose that game ,the second tie breaker is record in division where we have an advantage because Vikes lost to Bears.

I think Rodgers needs to look inward as much as anyone and stop the 3rd down show off bombs
Hit the guy short and open to sustain drives always
STOP THE HARD COUNTS AND DELAY OF GAMES
Besides talking to the team ask hard questions to Lafluer and Gutey about why we can’t stop the run and why special teams continue to be embarrassing

Al, excellent observation as usual...

I want to point out 2 things:
1. Aaron Rodgers and his long shots - he had 4 long throws which were under-thrown. 2 of those was targeting Davante,, Davante had catch one, but instead of TD he was stopped by defender. On another one Davante prevented interception. Same situation was with throw to MVS. MVS had empty field on his right side and he was running to the that side. DB was 2 steps behind him, but MVS had to adjust his route to the middle of the field to prevent interception. Aaron need to understand that all his opponents knows his habits and use them to stop him. He should stop trying to push D to make penalty. They just wait last second because they knows Aaron will drain the clock to the end. With that D get advantage because they can react faster.

2. Kenny Clark showed his value and how good he can be and how good he is. In this game Panthers doubled ZaDarius, what left Kenny Clark one on one, He is unstoppable when he is one on one. That is the reason why you all noticed Kenny Clark in this game...

This might be one of the those, "it's just me", things, but I find it slightly embarrassing from a fan perspective, when the entire defense races to the endzone to perform some type of train or conga line after an opposition turnover.

And it's not even required to be well earned, it can be of the variety of where, lets say the QB mishandles the snap and fumbles like Carolina did. I don't watch every team, so I don't know what the league norm is, but I can't believe there are many teams that display our D's irrational exuberance over the most mundane of TO's.

The way it's heading, I'm just waiting for the D to break out in a Cabaret dance sequence after the opposition offense is called for an illegal formation.

Yes, I absolutely agree. An interception to seal the win, ok. Not every damn turnover.

If Arron Rodgers wants to throw a 3rd down bomb. Let him. It disrespects the defense! It may shock you, and be Favre like. But his message is, he's No coaches Pet. If he can't get the defense to jump. He might just get a interference call. A bomb can cause that ricochet effect. It might help the short game. ( Next series.) Regardless, the target must move better and be faster. And the reward is breaking a pattern, for more success elsewhere.

Or as it did Sunday, three times, it stops a drive dead in its tracks and turns the ball over to the opposing offense to let them try to score. I know wholeheartedly which approach I would take on third down.

The problem I have with consistently passing long on third down, doing fake hard counts and always waiting until the last second to (hopefully) hike the ball is that it makes you predictable. Once you become predictable you make your opponent's job a whole lot easier.

Definitely more predictable.

Preston Smith has said if he sees the clock go to zero he'll start rushing and get a good jump. It works in reverse, for Packer opponents too. You can just tee-off on the rush if you know the opponent has to snap-it. Stresses the o-line and puts them at a disadvantage.

Lots of likeable comments by Jersey Al and other fans about Rodgers and his decisions. I hope Rodgers somehow gets it, for his sake and ours.
With regard to the incompletion to Lazard on third-and-six late in the game:
(1) Besides the apparent opportunity to hit Adams with a much easier pass for a first down that would've clinched the WIN, an announcer said he thought Rodgers also could have run for the first down.
(2) On that same drive, Rodgers had converted a third-and-one to Davante with seemingly the greatest of ease -- which has me wondering why he didn't make the easier pass (or run) on the next third down that would have -- dare I repeat myself -- clinched the WIN.
For all of his greatness, the latter part of Brett Favre's career was somewhat of a letdown due largely to questionable throws; for all of the greatness of Rodgers, let's hope he doesn't allow himself to suffer much the same sad decline.

Just An Observation:
I was watching the video of the play in question again. Take a look at the TE on the left side of the line. I think it is Sternberger. He takes 2 good shots from the D. He had no chance of cutting it back to try to help out his QB.

I am a little frustrated when Jamal Williams is in at rb instead of Jones in the red zone. Jones has knack for getting in the endzone that Williams does not. Looking back at the end of the 1st half I believe Jones would have made the goal line on the run from the 6 yard line. He would of bounced it out to the pylon. Williams cut inside and made it to the 1.
Also lets talk about Rodgers missing open receivers. On the pass play before half in which we got the PI, Allison was wide open, not even covered by a defender, in front of Lazard. Even more wide open than Shepard in the Philly game. If Rodgers would be more willing to use all of his receivers this offense could be formidable.

I love this article as I feel that offering criticism is important. Yes we are 8-2, but one would be crazy to ignore that we have a lot of things we need to work on. Clock management and inexplicable going deep when the short play is open are two things we need to get right. Thanks Al for offering perspective. It is not Debbie Downer to criticize, it is wanting us to get our team to do the things needed to get that Lombardi.

thanks for confirming that pulling the guy forward is illegal. It was so blatant that when it was not called I thought they had changed the rule.
If he had scored do we think the review would have assessed the penalty?

Unlikely. It wasn't taken into consideration in the Denver game when Risner threw the RB over the goal line.
