Anyone the Pack might draft that could put Lancaster or Lowry on the bench?

Anyone? Bueller?

That and anybody who can come in and improve the STs is all I can ask for at this point.

Lancaster has already been essentially supplanted by Keke.

Lancaster is a back up nose. He’s a decent one as long as that’s all one expects and can pay for.

Lowry for a fourth or fifth? Clint Eastwood on that. Reduce cap and end the temptation for Barry to not learn from Pettine’s mistaken infatuation.

DT is a tough add in a class that is widely considered to be sub par. I’m not going to freak out here if they select a different position R4, as there are players available with space eating and run stop capabilities later. Biggest reason not to worry too much is that Gutekunst knows the upgrade need there, and is a willing trader both in this draft and post draft. Maybe a guy they really like drops, and they make a trade similar to how they acquired Amari.

We should also remember, despite what may happen with Aaron Rodgers, the team can extend DeVante post draft to clear cap space for a FA addition there, which may prove more effective adding a player with NFL experience.

I’ve got one gem very few have heard of who may help there as well. Please, please, please!!!

Aaron Nagler, THANK YOU, Corey, and the CHTV staff for the draft parties. Participated both days, and it really made the draft more fun. Great work by everybody here!

Daviyon Nixon (Iowa) and Bobby Brown (TAMU) are available and would be good value picks in round 4. Nixon would be the kind of rotational DT that fits in the Fangio defense. Brown is more of an A'Shawn Robinson type with a big RAS score (9.8-ish).

Yeah, agree dobs, and there are others. There’s a special player I actually wrote Gutey a letter about they might be able to land late. Really wish we had a private message feature here to share info freely without Bear & Viking trolls seeing it. Regardless, Gutey knows, and I’m sure we’ll see him cover his bases there.

He could pop a pick from next year for a guy up top too if he wants. Day 3, I wouldn’t mind seeing that.

OK you have to give up the name before the pick is made.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Gutekunst trade w SEA to snap up TWO of the R4 players here. SEA is pick poor this draft.

We have a long way to go, and there’s good talent left to be had all over Day 3.

There are some big men on the board that I like. Run stoppers with the potential to push the pocket, having more explosiveness than Lancaster (not hard) as well as size and strength.

We can upgrade our D line, though do Barry and Gute see the need? One would think Gute does having let Adams walk. He may think Rush is better though (I think he helps this year). Lowry’s continued presence even with his cap hips makes me doubt Barry’s thinking though.

Lancaster is a try-hard guy, but agree was miscast in how the Packers tended to use him.

I think Lowry sticks around until someone displaces him...more of a situation where the Packers are saying, "why make an already thin position even worse?"

Hahaha! Yeah. I would have made that thin position worse immediately after the 2019 NFCC game...

Serious Q, if "Gutekunst knows the upgrade need there (defensive line-Lowry & Lancaster)" why are we going on year 4 of this dynamic duo next to Kenny Clark?

I really thought there was no way a seemingly sharp, in so many other ways, GM could look at the 2019 defensive line (especially after the 2019 NFCC) and run it back with the likes of Tyler, Dean, and Montravious ... yet that is exactly what we got.

Now, on May 1, 2021, after free agency, and after rounds 1-3 (of an admittedly poor for D lineman) draft here we are again with #94 and #95 staring us in the face for the upcoming season -- and Gute even re-signed #95. Yuck.

What leads you to believe Gut is finally going to do something about the D line?

You speak truth, KenEllis. I’m right with you. Been wanting both players zoomed out of GB on greased rails.

My thinking is the class is very close with what remains, and Gutekunst may like a player or two either dropping to him or pegged for R5. He may have a completely different plan to simply take a flyer late, and cover his bets at the position via trade or FA after they extend DeVante.

Your guess is as good as mine. Thought we would have been more aggressive, but maybe the value wasn’t there R1-3.

I think needs STILL remain at WR with our current situation, though Amari helps immensely. ILB, S, OT are all possibilities depending on who drops,. We have 6 remaining picks. We’ll see. Gutekunst addressed 3 other needs with arguably instant starters. Maybe he lands another at DT or elsewhere.

I’m as uneasy about DL as you are, but one or two great picks will cure that. A lotta ballgame left, even post draft.

It was fairly clear that Pettine wanted a light line, and used bigger men only when forced. The likes of Winn, Rush, Snacks just warmed benches despite making an impact when in.

If Barry wants differently, today is the day in this draft (I think Rush is one “pick” in effect). If Barry doesn’t, Gute may not add players who won’t get snaps.

Coldworld, I’m SO GLAD you mentioned this. A lot was made here regarding Osa Odighizuwa. Good player who made Senior Bowl noise, coveted for his motor and 84” wingspan.

Gutekunst signed UDFA Willington Previlon last year, a player with a hot motor and an 84” wingspan. He’s also 2” taller than Odighizuwa.

We have players at DL already in house, some were not used at all. Others may have been misused by Pettine. Value in this draft, again, may be better at other positions, and I trust 100% in Gutekunst.

Pettine was allowed to walk out. Gutekunst may have held the door. I’m still pissed Mark Murphy forced him on LaFleur.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve got some players in this R4 I seriously covet.

"Serious Q, if "Gutekunst knows the upgrade need there (defensive line-Lowry & Lancaster)" why are we going on year 4 of this dynamic duo next to Kenny Clark?"

Part of the answer is they have declined to make 5 draft choices in order to move up. Maybe one of those picks would have been a guy like Mike Daniels. In economic terms, that's called "opportunity cost". The Packers have not added 5 guys that may have filled one or more of their holes, perhaps with a solid depth guy or even a budding star.

A quick, easy and obvious example is not having Tyler Johnson on the roster because they had to move up for Jordan Love. He had less than 200 yards as a rook but was buried behind a stacked WR group. In the NFC CG, the broadcaster said Brady was signing his praises. I think he would have done more in GB and I'd feel better about the WR room. And did they have to move up? They jumped Miami, (Tua), Seattle (Russell Wilson), Baltimore (Lamar Jackson) and Tennessee, (Tanneyhill), Team Gute spun the yarn that Indy was looking to jump in. They always spin a good yarn.

Dob's is high on Brown; is it fit? I like Barnes as an ILB from Purdue, but there are a few others too-Moses, Hilliard. Fat daddy Shelvin, Togiai (sic)and Scott are on my thought list too for DT. DB's like Lenoir, Sterns, Stevens, Deablo, Taylor. Last year Gute did great in day 3...hope and wish for the picks to fall in the Packers lap again.

Of the guys who are left, I like Brown, but I agree he's not the kind of DT that the BG/Pettine thinktank tended toward...don't know what Barry will want. Brown played in a big-time conference (which is what they've tended toward so far) and is more of a base DT...big and broad, great length, but not an upfield DT. A really good athlete for the position, though. I think they'd rather have Nixon (of the two I mentioned)...he seems to fit the profile they have followed better.
