"Chips Report" from Packers Week 7 Win vs. Vikings

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had another scintillating performance while Randall Cobb had a costly turnover, but who else earned our weekly "Chips Report" designations?

Our weekly "Chips Report" will always include two blue chippers (outstanding, exceptional play), two red chippers (good, though maybe not great) and two cow chips (dud performances). From the Week 7 win against the Minnesota Vikings...

Blue Chips

  • Aaron Rodgers––It almost becoming a situation where we can pencil in a blue chip from Rodgers for every game this season. He once again had a fantastic performance completing 24 of 30 passes for 335 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 146.5 passer rating. He also did a nice job weaving in and out of traffic and stepping up in the pocket to avoid the Vikings pass rush on several occasions. His outstanding performance week after week is enough to overcome shortcomings from other areas of the team.
  • Mason Crosby––Crosby's franchise record 58-yard field goal is worthy of adulation alone. But he was a perfect 4 of 4 on field goals on the day in addition to three extra points. Ever since signing a long-term contract this offseason Crosby is a perfect 14 of 14 on field goals this season and has made 21 consecutive regular season field goals dating back to last year. That's Pro Bowl caliber. I wouldn't doubt at all if he's the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this year.

Red Chips

  • Charles Woodson––If it wasn't for a couple faux pas in coverage, Woodson had a blue chip performance. But he more than made up for it by baiting Vikings rookie quarterback Christian Ponder into two interceptions. That's Woodson's seventh multiple interception game of his career and sixth with the Packers. He's what allowed to win the Packers to win the turnover battle two to one. And the team that wins the turnover battle usually wins the game.
  • Clay Matthews––Though he only had one sack, Matthews was seemingly all over the field. When Ponder's snap count became predictable, Matthews was knifing into the Vikings' backfield disrupting their timing on a couple occasions. He racked up six tackles, two for a loss, a quarterback hit and a pass defensed on the day. And that late hit penalty? That was a poor call.

Cow Chips

  • M.D. Jennings––Not only did Jennings have a holding penalty that forced the Packers to start a drive inside their own 10-yard line on their first kickoff return of the game, he also nearly got in the way of Randall Cobb on his fumbled punt return. The worst part of it was, he was facing Cobb, which he should have seen coming and could have gotten out of the way.
  • Randall Cobb––Despite Jennings being in his line of vision, the ball still hit Cobb in the hands and had the Packers' only turnover on the day. It gave the Vikings the ball in Packers' territory and set up their second touchdown of the afternoon, giving them a 14-7 lead. He also dropped a third-down pass from Aaron Rodgers in the second quarter that he could have possibly turned into a first down. Cobb tried to make up for his mistakes with a 31-yard punt return, but it just wasn't enough to get him out of the cow chip category.

Blue Chip: Starks' running on the last drive. Credit to the Oline too. Vikings knew it was coming and couldn't stop it. And that ain't a chopped liver front 7.

Cobb's dropped pass was not only a potential first down, but a potential touchdown. Thats what it looked like from where we were sitting...horrible drop. The fumbled punt at midfield against a better team could have swung it...definately an cow chip performance and worthy of the "ugly" category.

You mentioned in the show about Crosby's contract. I was definitely one of those who questioned the size of the contract, but not the signing itself. I'll eat it - I was wrong.

It took a big person to make this statement.

I don't think anyone was happy with that contract. We're all eating crow.

I was. But I'm biased. Liked Crosby since his Colorado days, and always believed in him. I justified his troubled times, but always had his back. I'm glad to see him pulling it together. Did you see the coaches and players pumped up after his 58-yarder? Everyone's got his back. Lovely.

Thought I saw him on special teams, but not from scrimmage. Not sure though.

Instead of giving Crosby the "Blue Chip" maybe it should go to Special Teams as a whole. Besides Crosby's great performance, Mastay the Master avg'd 59 net yards, Cobb had the two good returns, kick coverage was pretty decent overall, and TJ Lang took one for the team...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrttVjV1a5Q

In a 6 point win, they were a difference maker.

I guess they were in cover 2 so that could have been Abdullah who gets that bluechip. But who really cares?
