Jam the top of the stack

The Jets have used the concept below more than a few times this year. It's an easy route combination for Sanchez to read to one side of the field and allows the Jets to keep one or two extra guys in to protect. Notice how Champ Bailey is in press, which is the traditional way you are supposed to play a stack when you are in man, with the top receiver's corner up at the line to jam the wide out as he's trying to get out into his route.

One small little problem: Bailey, despite being close enough to smell Edward's breath, never gets the jam:

Once Edwards has made his initial move, Bailey is beat. The safety either completely blows his assignment or is playing some sort of "Robber" underneath. Whatever the case, Bailey is on his own and he doesn't stand a chance after four steps.

This is the same kind of concept that the Lions used on their first touchdown to Calvin Johnson back in Week 4. The Packers gave Johnson a completely free release into a zone look that saw Morgan Burnett get completely turned around in the end zone.

If the Packers see the stack this weekend, they need to knock the hell out of the top receiver.

• Sanchez locks in, so should the defense

Up until two weeks ago and their game in Denver, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had done a good job of protecting the football. He'd thrown some bad balls but had stayed out of the INT column. Then came the Broncos game and the first two interceptions of the season for Sanchez.

The one pictured below is a pretty good example of how Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has limited the reads Sanchez needs to make on any given play. The problem, for the Jets, is that Sanchez has a tendency to stare down his initial read. This is not uncommon when it comes to young quarterbacks. Watch how he latches on to Jericho Cotchery from the snap of the ball all the way across the field, even after sidestepping some pressure up the middle.

The Packers secondary, with the likes of Nick Collins and Charles Woodson, should be able to make some hay against Sanchez. As Matt Bowen said last summer, the Packers secondary is filled with ballhawks. Sanchez will throw some catchable balls to the Packers defense. It will be up to them to make the play.
