It was very cool to see CheeseheadTV.com get some national publicity this week, being mentioned in Sports Illustrated's "Point After" column by Steve Rushin, although the context was rather bizarre.

Rushin's stance in the venerable back-page magazine feature is that the Super Bowl should be downsized, arguing that it reached its saturation point or jumped the shark––or whatever metaphor you want to use––last week in New York City.

CheeseheadTV.com was used to help prove his point. Writes Rushin:

All week the buses bearing the world's sportswriters were whisked by police escort from a Manhattan hotel to the team hotels in Jersey City, the cherries-and-berries of the NYPD lights reflecting off the walls of the sealed-off Holland Tunnel, beyond which lay a heartbreaking tableau: a green-suited Hess gas station attendant solemnly saluting the press buses, certain that behind their smoked windows sat Russell Wilson, or at least President Obama, and not the correspondent from cheesheadTV.com.

I'll admit that in having the opportunity to cover three Super Bowls, it's been an odd experience to have a police escort at every one of them. I hardly think I'm worthy of such an extreme measure, and I feel the same about the rest of the media corps, even those from the likes of ESPN and the NFL Network.

But I know, without embellishment, that I work hard at the site of the Super Bowl, attempting to pull off the dual role of writer and photographer to bring our readers coverage of the NFL's biggest event with a Packers angle.

I don't apologize for being a small fish in a big pond, or taking part in an event in which I'm seriously outclassed by top-notch sports journalists.

Although I do apologize to the gas station attendant if he perhaps expected to be waving to Russell Wilson or Barack Obama, and not Brian Carriveau.

I know we serve a very particular subset of die-hard fan, one that doesn't reach millions, but one that has reached in excess of 500,000 page views and over 100,000 unique visitors in a one-month period of time.
