Bulaga Suffers "Knee Sprain And Bruise"

Mike McCarthy updated reporters  on the status of injured right tackle Bryan Bulaga this afternoon, saying that the second year limeman out of Iowa had suffered a "knee sprain and bruise." McCarthy went on to say that Bulaga's status for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos would be determined "later in the week."

Interesting to note that McCarthy mentioned team physician Pat McKenzie indicating that Bulaga had "dodged a bullet."

In other injury information, Ryan Grant reportedly suffered a kidney bruise. Obviously, Grant finished the contest against the Bears but McCarthy seemed to suggest there was a chance that Grant could miss the game against the Broncos.

The only other injury was to linebacker Brad Jones, who suffered a hamstring tweak, but was able to finish the game. He is not expected to miss any time.

i'm optimistic, but i won't be relieved until I see him on the field. Heard this with Neal and with Jones, Finley, and Collins in the recent past.

Good preliminary news. Get well soon Bryan.

"i won’t be relieved until I see him on the field."

Right there with you.

Me too. Funny he bruised his knee, considering it didn't make contact with anything, on that play at least. I suppose he could have bruised it prior.

Brad Jones still plays for the Packers?? Time for him to go and Vic So'oto to get a shot.

Yoyo's picture

Brad Jones is only in because Vic So'oto has been inactive with a bad back

I hope that Bulaga truly "dodged a bullet" and that we don't hear that he's been placed on IR in 48 hours.

Grant can sit for the Broncos game, as far as I care. I'd rather he be healthy later in the season. Starks needs to shake off the Bears game and punch the Broncos right in the face (Shields, Woodson, please ignore this last line).

How great does it feel to know that we can afford to let Grant sit a game if he needs to and be fine in the backfield?

Starks just has to shake off the Bears game and move on, make up for it next week. Everyone has a bad day.

Ugh, that damn ambulance icon always makes me freakin' nervous. Aaron can we switch it to crutches for players who suffered an injury and have the ambulance signify the players done for the season?

I hope Bulaga is fine. Maybe sit him this week, have the intelligent Newhouse start (i say that because the man was wearing glasses in his interview on and get him ready for the Falcons which will be a bigger test then the Broncos we would think.

He sounds really intelligent...

Sit both Bulaga and Grant (if Grants injury is dangerous to his well being). Don't know if Alex Greens Achilles injury is still a problem, but if not, have him sub for Grant. If it is a problem, I guess we could go with using Kuhn as an option, much like we did last year.

Newhouse did a good job against the Bears. Think we'll be OK there.

Thankfully, neither injury seems to be long-term.

I'm wondering if So'oto's injury isn't worse than they're letting on.

So'oto is good to go, MM just didn't want him to play with so much missed practice time. I bet he is active vs the Broncos if he can make it through a full week of practice.

As for Grant and Bulaga, let them sit this next game and get healthy. Thats what having good depth is for.

What advantage do the Packers have by calling almost every injury a bruise? Does it really make game planning harder for the other team?

Chazman's picture

Instead of a bruise maybe they could qualify it as a "boo-boo". That should about cover all realms of injuries.

MM: "bulaga was running too fast on the sidewalk, tripped, and suffered a boo-boo on his right knee. we had him looked at, turns out it was just a bruise, so we gave him a popsicle to distract him, he should be good to go next week."

Looks like Sherrod might be a game day active. Hope that he's ready to roll now if Clifton has a knee bruise too. Better against the Broncos than against Peppers and the Bears.
