Yeah, I agree.

I would like to add Clements into the bad category.

Play calling was brutal. This was the first game that I really felt that there was a major disconnect between Rodgers and Clements as a play caller.

Maybe they are trying to run the offense they practiced during practice this week, but when what your doing isn't working, you have to do something different.

I don't know. I'm definitely in the minority around here on this, but I just don't think we can judge that sort of thing from the outside, especially given the fact that most of us have only a fraction of the football knowledge of the players and coaches. Rodgers basically said after the game that it wasn't really anything special that Denver did but that the players just didn't execute at all. He also said, according Michaels and Collinsworth, that he was pretty excited about the gameplan coming in. I'm more inclined to think that the players just got their butts whipped.

I know, I know......DISLIKE.

"I'm definitely in the minority around here on this, but I just don't think we can judge that sort of thing from the outside...."

You've got it all wrong. You can judge everything from the outside. Just look around here. Judging things from the outside is the easiest thing in the world to do. Depending on the game, this is how to criticize:

(1) The play calling was "too conservative" or "predictable."
(2) The team "abandoned the run."
(3) The team didn't blitz enough.

Monday morning after a loss, just take a look at this short list, figure out what criticism feels like the best fit, and RANT.

This team NEVER executes. Eddie Lacy is the only one who normally shows up for a full 60 minutes. He's been hampered by that ankle.

I don't like to criticize play calling because it comes down to execution 95% of the time.
My problem with the play calling is they didn't try to do anything different when what they were doing wasn't working.

And its not the play calls itself that I didn't like, its that they really didn't try very many different formations.
1 time I saw they put Cobb in the backfield. It worked ok, but they didn't go back to it. Another time they used 2 TE's. Which was 'ok'.
But they didn't use any 4 WR sets. I think if they could have brought in some different personnel they at least could have possibly found something to work.
We don't know how that would have turned out though cuz they didn't try it.

Did they pay him not to mention, hey Denver went out and got two top pass rushers via free agency not the draft to shore up its defense.
What we saw was not a draft and development defense.
Ted acts like these guys once trained stick around and you win and win and win.
You play for today Ted. This D was bougth and paid for and last night they paid back some of their earnings.

I suspect MM has been calling the plays since offense went into funk. There's no difference between him now and before i.e., he's got his nose buried in his offensive play call sheet.

"Idiot Fan" ... You are hardly alone in this opinion. I've said exactly the same thing for years. Back on the Jersey Al site, I routinely got reamed for saying it by authors and comment posters alike. To be honest, I just think it's silly. A single loss to an undefeated team on the road in a very difficult stadium... and clearly this means, at best, that Mike McCarthy suffered a bout of temporary insanity, or at worst, that his entire career is a sham and he's actually one of the worst coaches in human history. It also means that ARod is terribly uncoachable, TT doesn't know how to draft, the sky isn't blue, beer isn't good and girls aren't hot. Clearly everything we thought is wrong. This team is ..... EXPOSED!!! ***shudder***

Blah, blah. Sometimes teams lose. You're a good team. You were fired up. You charged out on to the field. You kicked off. Things went wrong... you got your butt handed to you. It happens.

When people over-react to a single loss and start hyper-analyzing all of the obvious schematic and play-calling reasons by which a certain coach shamefully lost the game by his stupidity, it doesn't usually impress me with their football knowledge. It makes me wonder if they ever played the game in their lives, or any other sport for that matter.

I know, I know..... DISLIKE.

My problem with this loss is its not only this loss that this stuff has been happening in. The Offense is struggling and has been struggling for most of the season so far.
The problems with this offense has been happening all season long. I know a lot of it has to do with injuries. But they still have had problems getting open. I am not saying they need to change their entire scheme and change how they have done everything. This was one game, but they do need to improve things.

What I'm saying is they need to do more schematically to get WR's open. And put players into better positions to succeed.

It feels like they haven't figured out how to play without Nelson yet. They need to change things to fit who they have more then trying to fit the players they have to what they have done.

He had a full week of practice to knock the rust off. He didn't play for a month, fine injured. Now you need to give him a few weeks to knock off the rust. How many more weeks does he need?

Face it... He's just not that good. Yet and maybe never.

Yeah it's ridiculous, because one could count on one hand the number of times the OL didn't look like a revolving door, the WR's sticking with their defenders and Rodgers looking like a bad version of Captain Check Down.

I wish he was captain check down! I guess the check downs didn't get open either. He stood back there for a long time only to throw the ball away. The line played OK in pass Pro and was atrocious in run blocking. Rodgers seems to constantly look for the big play rather than taking what the defense gives them, not only is it rodgers but the play calling didnt help either. Never saw a slant all freakin night. Never saw a pick all night, maybe one screen. HOW IN THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO PUT LACY IN MOTION AND SPLIT HIM OUT WIDE LEAVING NO ONE TO PICK UP THE BLITZ?? Does Clements, Rodgers, and Mac seriously think Lacy is going to do anything split out wide?? It's essentially taking one of your best players completely out of the play before the ball is even snapped and look what happens, blitz ends with hurried throw away. WTF kind of play is that when you do the defenses job for them by eliminating one of the few threats and the last line of protection, too cute and over out coaching yourself at it's finest??

Good:
The Refs - thanks for bailing the Packers offense out with those late-hit & defensive holding penalties.

Bad:
McCarthy - no timeout to end the 1st half, punting down 19 late in game, no energy, bad game plan. Pathetic...

And the entire team - that was brutal

The Ugly:
Nate f-ing Palmer - seriously there is not a better ILB on our roster or another teams practice squad?

All in all, losing to a very good AFC team on the road is far from devastating. This team needs to get better and I believe they will. The bigger game is next week at Carolina. That one will carry playoff implications. Win that one and all is well in Packerland...

The Problem in this game is the problem the Packers always have. They just did not show up ready to play for a full 60. Normally the "lull" only lasts for 2 quarters, then we eke out a victory and everyone says it's ok.

This is why that is NOT ok. Last January was the major example of it. In that game it took place in the last 5:00. In this game it took place for the full 60.

I don't disagree with any of these selections, and the emphasis on defense is above is fine, but they got zero help from their offense. McCarthy deserves to be in the Ugly, to be sure, but it just seems like he should have some company. I know only one candidate can make it into that category, but can we maybe think about working around that rule a bit to somehow include the offense? Can we perhaps consider "Mike McCarthy and The Entire Offense" as a unit? Maybe if we say that's the name of their band? Would that qualify as a single entity and get them all in together?

We could say the "Shoulder Injuries" were opening for them or something.

clay mathews added to the good. also, defense had some great hits and stops. but,

defensive scheme added to bad. why were those holes in the middle not fixed? the defense would look good, and then every fifth play someone is way open in the middle, or the runner breaks the line and the middle is open.

ugly: poor game time coaching on both sides.

I think it's a byproduct of Rodgers' approach. He likes to take as much time as possible to read the defense, and occasionally that takes too long. Given his ability to read a defense and audible, I'm inclined personally to live with it.

I thought yesterdays game was more due to the play calling not getting in fast enough. It seems like they were getting to the LOS to late.
The one they had to burn the timeout you could tell Rodgers was not happy that it took so long to get the play call in.

To be clear, I'm not saying inexperience at WR and TE are causing delays in getting the play called.

I'm saying maybe inexperience at WR and TE are hindering/slowing down Aaron's ability to audible and that's why he's always up against the play clock and wasting time outs.

They really need to find a way to fix it or get rid of it. I fear a game we NEED will come down to a needed TO (either to challenge, stop the clock or regroup..etc) and we burned 1 or 2 TO's previously.

I have no problem with the burned timeouts. What I do have a problem with is taking a time out, and then right after having trouble to line up and snap the ball before time expires. And I'm sorry, if he is still walking around with 2 - 3 seconds before the snap has to happen and trying to shout alignments, and then doesn't even give the signal to snap to the C before 1/2 sec to go, and then has this frustrated but also accusing look to Linsley, then I don't understand that at all. The C doesn't see the play-clock.
I am getting the feeling lately that #12 is not the best team mate or even a good team player. Especially in light of the fact that he'd rather hack off his right arm than throwing to WRs he "doesn't trust"...

You know it's a bad game when we are agreeing that the Packer's special teams play was the Good in the game.
Also, no turnovers despite everything and very few penalties.
The Bad, almost everything except special teams.
The ugly, pass defense torched badly for the second game in a row. Both of our OTs were badly outplayed on pass protection. Hayward on defense and Bakh at LT are becoming liabilities at their respective positions and it's obvious that teams will go after Hayward and Bakh may get Rodgers hurt.
On a positive note (I hope), the Chargers and Broncos are 2 opponents the Packers see once every 4 years and we split our games with them, losing the road game. Better to lose the AFC games if we have to lose a few games during the season.
Sometimes you just get beat. That was the case in this game. It's one game, it happens. We looked bad against New Orleans on the road last season and we responded.
Our pass defense looked awful against Julio Jones last season but we beat the Falcons at home and moved on. One game at a time. Go Pack! Thanks, Since '61

Since 61, problem is, that the packers Defense hasn't been good all year. They just faced bad Olines. Chargers and Broncos both exposed GBD for what it is. Each week, someone or some team gets out of a slump when playing the packers. Before the game, everyone said how Manning couldn't throw, and it was going to be a pick-fest. Shows how fans talk themselves into a hype. The defense was over-rated all year, and a number of us say it and said it so since, and including the Chicago game.

The problem with this team starts from the top. TT, MM, DC all are stubborn and have huge egos that need to stay filled by trying to only do things "There Way". You have a GM(TT) who only like short average speed corner but have good ball skills and WR will marginal speed bc that is what he likes. In turn you have a coach MM who has refused to fire his (declining five yrs straight) DC. Then you have a DC who continues to play the same nickel that gives up every run up the middle every play. All said we need some changes at the top. The winning has masked the holes of talent on the roster. These Coaches and the GM act scared of challenging the status quo. Like Why on Earth is Palmer still starting.

Right? Remember when the Saints were the model franchise? The Niners? Remember how they were on the cusp of a dynasty? The Seahawks? How about the Lions? The Lions were supposed to put together a run or two. They had all the pieces but couldn't put it together in time.

Bottom line is staying at the top, year in and year out, is pretty freaking hard. The free agency system and the salary cap are designed to to make it really freaking hard.

I totally disagree with this post. It's just not reality. It's really hard to stay on top in the NFL. Most teams have trouble making the playoffs year after year. The Packers are almost a perennial playoff team. to get to the SB and win it, it needs often luck (injuries, favorable schedule, etc), and only one team will win it. So I think it is pretty good to reach the playoffs year after year.

And I really have to say something. You all can say about Dom C what you want, but at least he is trying things, even during a game. Not sure whether you are really watching the games, but he tries man, zone, blitzes, no blitzes. Yesterday he literally tried everything, but his players didn't execute and were beaten off snap right away. Not on Dom.
But at least he tries!!! Unlike the O. They won't change or adjust their game plan at all. So please put blame where it belongs. McC, Clements, #12.

Palmer had a bad game, but so did many others. Why is Hayward still on the team as an outside CB? Why is Bakhtiari still starting LT? Why is Adams on the team as starting WR? Why is R. Rodgers starting TE? Cause those are the best players on the roster for the position they play at the moment. Ok, Hayward should play in the slot, and not outside CB. But the rest I listed are the best we have at the moment. Now it is the job of the coaches to put them in position to succeed. Does anyone really think the Patriots have better WRs than the Packers as far as talent is concerned? Do you even know who plays WR for the Patriots aside of maybe Edelman??? I know Amendola, and that's it. Couldn't tell you anybody else's name...

I agree in general. Dom's DBs didn't try to bump the WRs. The opposing WRs had a free release on every play that was shown. Usually the inside was not taken away either. Shields has the physical ability to allow free releases and still be effective, but Hayward doesn't.

Wrong on so many levels. I know no one will agree with me but here's a newsflash for you. Winning the Super bowl does not necessarily mean you're the best team in football. It just means you won 3 (or 4 depending on your seeding) games in a row at the end of the season. Playoff games are a lottery - a 50/50 proposition playing the other top teams in the league. This is no 7 game series it's all or nothing thing each playoff week. The tournament could start over again and totally different results are almost guaranteed.

The Packers draft and develop philosophy is a sound one given that premise. Maintain a high level of play while making tweaks and small adjustments. Don't change too much requiring a starting all over approach. Draft well and reward the players who perform. Get yourself into the playoffs and then see how that lottery plays out.

There are some areas to address for this team. But guess what? It's November 2. Plenty of time to get ready for when it really counts in January. And oh by the way they are 6 - 1 in the meantime. All this doom and gloom over a road game in November. My my.

I swear this board acts like this team is the Browns or something and haven't made the playoffs in a decade or two.

I've been on the "Fire Dum Capers" bandwagon since 2011 and will never get off. Games like this are the reason. Sure, the D can beat up some inferior QBs and crap teams but they usually fold when they face quality. Dum needs to pack up his white-out and handwritten game plans and 90's defense and get down to Boca and sit around the pool.

The offense? Unless they get over the fascination with the long ball and develop a short game with schematic devices to get guys open, look for more of the same

I see very little denial here. In fact there may be an over reaction to how bad the Packers play is. If they get their asses handed to them against Carolina, then start to worry. Every season has peaks and valleys, we're in a valley, but not the gutter.

We're 6-0 against teams with losing records and most with below average offenses ,SD exception, and 0-1 against a contending team, which made us look to be more in the gutter than many want to accept.

To be fair, going into the weekend there were 6 total teams with winning records outside of the 5 undefeated teams. So out of 32 teams 11 had winning records. Take away the Packers, and that is 10 teams left with winning records.
You can make that winning records argument for about everyone of the 6-0 teams.
You can only play the teams on your schedule.

When does Tarynfor12 comment on the board?

A) When the Packers lose so there's something to complain about.

And uhh no others. That's the only time.

And I sure hope fans make noise when their team wins a game. That's what being a fan is about. But you aren't a fan so you wouldn't know that.

And who is denying this wasn't an arse whipping? Because that was an arse whipping beyond any arse whipping this team has suffered in a long, long time.

"When does Tarynfor12 comment on the board?

That's not true......I complain all the time according to some and do it well.
As a fan,I have the right to complain and compliment but I'll admit I do much less of the latter as there are so many already looking the other way via false compliments of clear and simple bad play.

The RB rotation is a disaster. Lacy is the better back and when given the chance to run out of the I or pistol he usually picks up chunks of yardage. Asking a 240lb RB to go from 0 to 100 when handing it from the shotgun is and has always been a mistake.

During Rodgers calf injury last year they put him in pistol and Lacy went wild. He's the offenses 2nd best weapon outside Cobb and yet gets limited touches in a game where he's needed most.

Baffling

That being said the Broncos are an AFC team and playing in Denver obviously played to their advantage. Won't be surprised when the offense gets back on track next week. Losses like those can sometimes be a good thing. Can't go 13-3 without losing 3 times, just would have liked to see the reigning MVP show a little more fight.

What baffles me is the offense running from the shotgun and throwing from the I. They weren't fooling anyone. Get the inverted wishbone going and pound away, or spread them out 4 or 5 wide and hit some quick throws. Way too many long developing routes lately.

Also wouldn't have minded Rodgers throwing a pick, at least he would have been trying to make the tight throw.

To me its not the same team as it was last year, they look like they are just playing at it. Most of the players are the same as last year, I do think injuries have had a big impact. I knew Jordy being out was going to be a loss but really this big a loss who have thunk it.

Denver's defense is the real deal. The Packers defense has a lot of ground to cover to be anywhere as near as good as Denver's. Next week, another test from the Panthers. In our division, the vikings are only one game behind us. We have yet to play Detroit, the Vikings and both always play us tough. It's time to take care of business and get back on track.

Just two thoughts about the debacle witnessed on Sunday.

It is obvious to even the slowest of slow that the Packers had no answer when Denver (and San Diego) lined up 3 receivers on one end of the line....as to who to cover...8 out of 10 times there would be a cow chipping ball tossed to someone who was wide open 6 yards parallel to the line of scrimmage for incessant gains.

This use to be done to the Packers by San Francisco at the birth of the West Coast offense. Fritz Shurmur knew what to do...he dropped linemen back 5 yards into that zone which total confused the 49ers.....

It is obvious Capers is no Shurmur. The blueprint has been laid on how to beat the Packers...how many games will it take Capers to figure something out? It shouldn't take two fricken games~

Secondly, Aberderras isn't a mascot!!!!!!!!!! He's a damn fine receiver and his route running is impeccable...He is intellegent, atheltically gifted..and he certainly knows what to do when Rodgers is running for his life...Play him for Pete's sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS. Oh..andI have heard that Rodgers takes 3 years to "trust" a receiver....given the beat down he received yesterday...he won't last 3 games....

Perhaps the Packers could take that from Denver and San Diego and incorporate that into their offense. Rodgers would like to have WR's wide open once and a while.

I mandate myself to the thinking that Janis and Abbrederis are fragile kitchen sinks deemed of high value, thus, the not throwing either at Denver to help by any means to survive would be worse long term than curling up and taking the beating witnessed.

Thanks for sharing that. i did not see that until now.

What is funny is that is pretty much exactly what I have been saying all day and last night.

There is no reason why they can't make these adjustments to their scheme. They need to do something more to get WR's open.

The rich get richer. The same team that gave us a beat down last night just acquired Vernon Davis. Welp looks like our TE position will be a weakness this whole season. Along with ILB.

TT deserves some blame here folks. His draft and develop philosophy by no means is a bad strategy. But when other teams use that same strategy as well as free agency it sets you team behind them in terms of talent. I am not saying that he should target high price free agents. But I think before the season started we had 14 Million in Cap Space. Rolando McClain could have been a nice pickup he would have cost 4.5 mill. Jordan Cameron could have helped.

Or even cast off 1st round talents such as Aldon Smith. A move like that makes no sense to me. We need a OLB of the future. And the 49ers cut him and we do nothing. He needs to put all the marbles in for one season. Damn! Pats did it last yr look what happen.

Aaron Rogers fails to show up in big games. He is paranoid beyond a fault for tossing interceptions and holds onto the ball way to long for that perfect pass.
I still do not understand why he can't throw 8 to 10 yarders over the middle rather than those 25 to 30 yard pass plays? Manning made fools of the packer D by doing the same thing over and over again, short 12 yarders to the tight end. Wide open no one near him. Gee how hard is that to figure out. If it works for them why not us???????
