Blake Martinez agrees to terms with the New York Giants
The former 4th round pick finds a decent payday in New York.

Adam Caplan has the goods:
Former #Packers ILB Blake Martinez agreed to a 3-year deal worth just over $30m with #NYG, source said.

Good for Blake. He was never as good as the Packers probably hoped he'd be but he was never as bad as some Packers fans on the Internet wanted you to believe.
Martinez was a fourth-round pick for the Packers in 2016, starting 57 games for the Green and Gold.
He started all 48 games over the past three seasons and played nearly every snap.
He finishes his time in Green Bay with 512 career tackles, 10 sacks, 17 pass breakups and three interceptions.

We just got worse at inside linebacker. Going backwards.

I don’t know. It doesn’t seem like the team felt Martinez was the answer. I’m sure cost was part of it, but he was getting exploited. I don’t think Kirksey solves the problem alone, but he is a different type of ILB who thrived under Pettine. Perhaps that tells us more than anything. It might also suggest Martinez May be a better fit in a different system.

LOL, no. As the season drew on, opposing teams exposed Martinez lack of quickness or lateral speed and allowed no namers to run/pass all over GB. See San Fran.
Perhaps his still will be better utilized in a different system, but he is an average ILB (at best) who is now getting paid upper echelon dinero.

I disagree. I think they at least held steady at ILB, and perhaps gained in coverage and saved a little cap space. It's contingent on health, but you can say that about any player. I expect they'll go find a thumper somewhere to play Goodson's role on run-downs. Those guys are a dime-a-dozen.

Fourth round in the draft or Brooks in the third if he's around.

In Goodson's defense. He did seem to be in position on some of the coverage looking over the all 22..
I still have Pettine on double secret probation...

Best to Blake Martinez. His tackling machine abilities should flourish behind NY's beefy front.
Can't help but think the two newest free agents are veteran stop gap players our next draft capital learns from.
Look, for Gutey to draft a ROT and ILB early in the upcoming draft

LOL, no. "flourish" and "Blake Martinez" will never go together in the context of play on a football field.

Won't be shocked if Martinez becomes All-Pro with the Giants.

If he does, that will be a heck of an achievement on that team. I do think it may be a better fit if this year’s Giants are similar in their front 7 and approach.

LOL, no. I'll be utterly flabbergasted if he is an All Pro. I

Shobert received the bigger contract of the three former fourth rounders for a reason.

Good for him. He worked so hard for it with very little praise from us. I Hope Gute’s decision to pass doesn’t bite us in the butt. Wish him well. Thanks for all your hard work, Blake.

LOL, no. Martinez got ample praise from fans who oo'ed and ahhh'ed about his tackling numbers to no end - despite the fact that a great percentage of them were 8+ yards down field. If anything, Martinez was over-hyped and rated by Packer fans.

Happy for Blake. Also happy that he is not being paid 30m to be a Packer who can't cover and gets run over by OGs.
Give me the cheap Kirksey and a draft pick for the win.

Finally someone who peeled their green and gold glasses off their face. Thank you for being a voice of reason. For my sanity sake.

BM will have a couple avg. years w/ Giants but he’s not going to get any faster.
It got to the point against the 49ers that he was playing at the level of of a nickel back
so backs and TE’s wouldn’t be blowing past him.
