-- It's important to continuously evolve your game throughout the span of your career.

Take it from someone like Aaron Rodgers, whose talents and ever-developing strengths continue to decimate the rest of the league and keep him at the top of the food chain (not the salary chain just yet).

When Rodgers' career is all said and done, there may be someone other than the Green Bay Packers' quarterback taking the NFL by storm -- it could be Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Drafted out of Clemson with the 12th overall pick in 2017, Watson started six games and threw for 19 touchdowns before suffering a season-ending knee injury in October. He was one of the biggest stories circulating around the league, even despite leading the Texans to an average 3-3 record in his starts.

What he showed offered promise for the future and a stellar glimpse into what awaits the Texans' offense in 2018 and beyond.

Rodgers, who was once that same player entering his second season as a starter, offered his own thoughts on Watson at the BMW Charity Pro-Am at the Furman University Golf Club on Thursday.

"He did some amazing things," Rodgers told the Greenville News. "Obviously he's extremely gifted athletically and can throw all over the field. That gives him a lot of different weapons to use in that offense."

Advice? Rodgers doesn't think Watson needs it.

Rodgers' situation from 2008 through 2009 was a bit different. He was taking over after the debacle that saw Brett Favre land with the New York Jets and, eventually, the Minnesota Vikings in 2009.

The reins belonged to Rodgers and after suffering the only losing season of his career in 2008, neither he or the Packers looked back.

"As he'll find out, the second year is maybe the toughest year for a quarterback because you have an entire offseason for teams - especially teams in your division - to study you," Rodgers said, whose improvements in his sophomore season went beyond an extra five wins tacked on to the team record.

"It makes things a little harder. I played pretty decent my first year and came back in '09 and was seeing some different looks because there's a lot more film on you."

Rodgers helped lead the Packers to a Super Bowl win in just his third season as a starter. Similar dreams presumably linger in the minds of many Texans players, including Watson.

To reach that pinnacle of success, they'd have to go through an opposing NFC team -- possibly the Packers and Rodgers -- to get it.
