Aaron Rodgers Speaks: He Wants to play for the Jets.

Rodgers confirms he wants to be in NY.

On the Pat McAfee Show today, Aaron Rodgers was surprisingly forthcoming in telling the world that he has decided he wants to play for the NY Jets. he says the decision was actually made last Friday, and the only holdup is the two teams agreeing on the compensation.

After the season, Rodgers said the Packers told him to take his time, they wanted him to retire as a Packer and if he wanted to return, they would welcome him back. Rodgers indicated he was leaning towards retirement going into his darkness retreat and when he came out, he felt there had been a shift in the Packers' feelings towards him returning. He doesn't know what caused it but, "They want to move on," he said, "and now so do I."

Rodgers was very gracious, saying that although it was bittersweet, he held no grudges, repeated several times his love for the organization, the fans, the city, etc.

Here's a farewell for Rodgers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmE7gVkK14I

The lyrics mostly don't match, but the sentiment - and the fact that the characters are divorced from each other and are reminiscing - do match the mood.

Of course, the line "you might've been a headache but you've never been a bore" does kind of match :)

So there ya go, its over...now can we please move on? Its time for some of you to STFU about it...obsess about someone or something else here on CHTV..AR said all the right things which will undoubtedly piss some of you off...hope the Packers didn't get screwed by the Jets on compensation, but whatever...talk about the draft now or the weather...

I thought AR did a very good job! Very polished and poised even if most likely there was a lot of prep done in advance along with the list of questions provided ahead of time.

I am glad he shared what he did and my thoughts is there was some good honest answers but also some half truths such as the list. He talked about the players he liked/wanted, but did not send a list. To me, that is providing a list!

Glad he was a Packer but glad he is being traded. Best of luck AR!

I like how 12 gave Love - Love! (None of it was Love's fault...)

I also think it could've been very easy for him to unload on the FO and he didn't. Not in the least...

He was respectful, appreciative, and understanding of the franchise wanting to move on to Jordan Love...

Had Gutey "NOT" drafted Love, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion today...

Just saying...

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see Love play and I hope when he finally retires, he can honestly say he was the greatest Packer in the history of the Packers and it isn't even close...

(Keep in mind, I grew up with Bart Starr, and I got to meet my idol in Fort Dodge, Iowa at a "Fellowship of Christian Athletes" function in the late 60s... I was 7 or 8 at the time...)

I still hope Jordan Love retires as the greatest Packer in history...

As far as the FO, I pretty sure the Harlan reference was a slam at Murphy ; )

Good post & how cool it was you were able to meet Mr. Bart Starr! To think there was Starr then Favre, and now Rodgers. Starr was all class! In all the years I have been a Packer fan I have never even once heard anything negative about Starr.

Knock, I totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised on how forthcoming he was, how many times he expressed gratitude and love for everyone in the Green Bay Packers organization, the fans, the town, etc. We got a timeline and some clarity on where the situation lies at the moment. I very much appreciated it.

Better?

BTW... It's the offseason and THIS is what's happening...And I'd say it's not over, not yet. Do the Packers have ANYTHING in return settled yet?

Not pissed off at AR at all. It went EXACTLY how I thought he would (Remember the summer of 2020). You KNEW those issues would arise again after all of this.

Just an observation based on some of your comments. You don't seem to care much for many of us here at CHTV who have been here for years or just a few weeks. Speaking for myself I can only say I live, eat, and shit Green Bay Packers Football. I LOVE the Packers and until they stick me in the ground I'll never STFU...

Rodgers screwed the pack today so they won't get much for him maybe nothing.

It’s not over. He’s decided (though Murphy already told us he was better off elsewhere). However the teams can’t agree on the price. The assumption on his part is that the Packers should cave. That depends on what Jets have offered.

All we learned is that Rodgers is not fighting the move. He’s also not saying that he won’t come back if it falls apart. Until the parties agree on a price, falling apart is a very real possibility. Over to Mark Murphy’s MVP of last off season, Russ Ball.

Yeah, he's not been traded, but I can't see any way he'll be back at this point. Of course, I've been wrong before, so being wrong again would be nothing new.

The cynic in me wants to think that Rodgers played nice and spoke well of the team, city, and fans in order to mitigate any hard feelings so that he'd be welcomed back in case the trade falls through. The non-cynic wants to think that he meant what he said.

I don’t think he will ever take a snap for us, but he doesn’t have to. If they can’t trade him then they have to cut him post June 1. We can’t afford him to be on the starting roster: if he is the full contract hit kicks in. He can just sit at home and threaten to pop up just in time to count or hold out knowing if he ends it we are another 60 million in cap down.

Yes - it would be at the very least (said in falsetto) "Awk-ward!" Potentially, an excellent way to split the locker room and further harm Scooter's credibility, if that's even possible.

Good point about not rostering him, too.

"Per a league source, the Packers are willing to wait until the draft to trade Rodgers, if that’s what it takes to get what they want.

With Rodgers habitually absent from the early phases of the offseason program, it’s not as if he’ll be in the building between now and April 27. And with a $58.3 million option bonus that has a lengthy exercise period (the Packers can pick it up at any point from tomorrow until Week One), Rodgers has a very manageable cap number into September.

Basically, they get the benefit of the multi-year proration without having to pay the $58.3 million.

So the Packers can just wait."

Packers can. I’d claim that too if I had nothing better. What may change is the Jets deciding not to. The longer they leave it the worse their options. Which of course is why the Packers called this and we now see who blinks first.

Cutting AR post June is a terrible outcome. The result is:

$30.405M dead in 2023 - so almost no cap relief this year;
$68.2M dead in 2024.

Finding $68M in 2024 would be hard. OTC has GB $17M under the cap now with 30 players signed for 2024, so if GB has 51 or more, zero cap space (21 players times $795K = $16.695M, and OTC projects a $256M salary cap for 2024) . Lose $40M since AR is gone, still need $20M. Cutting Bakh saves $21M, so GB is in the black. No Gary on OTC's list, so what is his cap number in year two of his extension going to be? Probably at least 12M, better if it were $17M on a $23M AAV extension? So GB is negative $12M to $17M and needs at least $12M to sign draft picks, 52/53rd players, PS, and some cushion. So they have to mangle Jaire again, or Kenny, and maybe Douglas and Campbell.

It could be done, but in cap hell in 2024 if they do it that way. GB would be out of hell, even out of purgatory by 2025, so there is that.

The Option #3 I’ve been wondering about all along. Thanks, TGR.

So, you’re sayin’ there’s a chance? LOL.

It’s an option as a worst case scenario, but really good to know. I can’t be the only one here who’s wondered how that possibility breaks down.

Way to bring it!

It will never get that far, IMO, because there is an immense amount of money that will be made by both teams and the NFL with this trade becoming a reality.

This trade is happening.

"Cutting AR post June is a terrible outcome."

I believe the best outcome (if a Jets trade falls through) would be a post-June 1st RETIREMENT. Rodgers was 90% for retirement before his journey through darkness, so he may still be of the mindset. How do the Packers encourage him? By offering him a 12-year personal services contract for say $10M per season. That covers his remaining contract $ (plus interest - think of it as a deferred payment) and get's him off the market, he retires having only played for the Packers. Rodgers merchandise sales over that period would likely off-set the contract cost and free our cap. We only get cap relief, but we also don't have a still good QB with a chip on his shoulder coming back to haunt us.

I think Rodgers meant that. It's got to hurt that the FO changed their mind in the last couple of weeks after telling him to take his time but that they wanted him back. And then to change their minds . . . that's ridiculous behavior by the FO. Nothing about his play or Jordan Love's readiness changed in the last three weeks.

Rodgers has said over and over again how much he loves the team and the town and the state of Wisconsin and he certainly wanted to retire a Packer. They have now cut off that option by changing their minds.

That's assuming that what he said is true.

jurp, we can't assume anything we hear is true, regardless of which side of the camp we are hearing from.

This breakup has been coming since Jordan was drafted. Just like with the Favre/Rodgers breakup, the Rodgers/Love breakup falls on the communication of the FO with the HOF player they want out.

At the end of the day, they should have been just as honest with Rodgers as they were with Favre. Love ya, but your done. Sounds like AR sensed it but the FO didn't confirm it. Weak communicators cause major issues when it comes to communication : )

Wasn't it Rodgers who said at the end of the season that both parties have to agree that he should return? Of course he's upset, he was the one dumped. If he was the dumper then everything would be good for Rodgers.

"Rodgers has said over and over again how much he loves the team and the town and the state of Wisconsin and he certainly wanted to retire a Packer. "

His ACTIONS hardly were those of someone who loves his team and the fans who root for him. He's held the Packers, their fans and most of the state of Wisconsin hostage for multiple years in a row to get something for himself. FOR HIMSELF not for the team or the fans or the state. Talk is cheap, actions speak volumes.

Enough about Rodgers's side of this -- how he feels, whom he wants around him for comfort in NY, etc. The big question now, as you observe, is what the deal does for the Packers. Besides what happens to our team morale, there's the matter of money. Cobb and Lewis shouldn't cost the Jets much, but they just shelled out >$40m for Lazard. I just hope they don't go broke on this shopping trip, which might include Beckham, and then expect the Packers to eat a big piece of AR's contract. I'm no accountant, but that's my concern now -- making a good deal for the team I've supporting for more than 60 years (before, during, and after the Rodgers era).

Thank God the by-laws of the Packer Corporation will require Murphy to retire soon! He can then go and build Mega hotels in ONE of Bob Harlan's shoes.

That’s quite a high guarantee as I see it for a guy with Lazards’ stats, albeit with premium blocking skills for a WR. The overall isn’t far off what was predicted per year.

Gutey & Murphy after screwing up last years trade that didn't happen and giving out the bloated & ill advised contract had better not blink regarding the trade compensation. Half of the NY Jets fans are foaming at the mouth wanting/expecting AR. If the Packers end up not trading AR the Jets are in huge trouble, particularly with all the FA QB's mostly off the table. I think Gutey has more leverage than many think. It will come down to whether the Packers are willing to hold out and not bend.

Should the deal fall apart I am okay with that! I am not okay with receiving below market value for AR's services. There is a lot of time between now and the trade deadline and someone out there I guarantee is going to want AR.

He said, Its the Jets or retirement, I'm not coming back. The pack have no leverage now because they cant tell the Jets we will just keep him if we cant get a good deal. That option is off the table now thanks to Rodgers.

I don’t think he plays. I just don’t see that bridge being rebuilt. With his cap implications, the pool of teams willing and able will be minimal too. Jets will have no choice but to cough up the picks. They want us to cough up the cash for signing bonuses in reworked deals, trade away extra players, whatever... they'll have to cough up more picks. Keep stackin' em, and we'll tell you when to stop.

My best guess is the deal is reached less than 1 hour prior to the start of festivities Draft Day 1, Thursday, April 27th, 2023.

I'm sure I'll write more once this is officially signed and sealed.
I guess that deals which have apparently reached this stage - in all sports - sometimes fall apart, but now, AR is on record of saying he's looking forward to going to the Jets.

It may be best for both franchises, and for him, yet a little sad just the same.

Very sad, but Gutey facilitated this very day back in 2020, which he didn't have to do...

He only has himself to blame.

He also had the perfect opportunity to trade AR last off-season and stubbornly refused (or Mark Murphy refused to) to do so, making this look even worse, IMO.

I listened to everything AR said, and while I knew this day would come, and should come, I was proud of everything he said, even if it was a bit sad... The class with which he said what he said was amazing and I commend him for doing so on the PMS.

Screw the "main stream" NFL media...

Love how %'in supportive he was of JORDAN LOVE on his way out the door!

Class Act for sure!

Thanks for the memories AR12!

Good Luck in NYC!

No, I think Gutey should've traded AR12 over Mark Murphy and MaLF's objections...

Is Gutey our GM or not?

Think you misunderstood...

(*I think Mark Murphy nixed it over Gutey's objections that we should trade him...)

That's why I said "or Mark Murphy"

In that context, no he’s not.

In the truest sense he’s the head of the player personnel department and Murphy is the GM. He could have resigned, but otherwise he’s not got the authority. Given how his last draft looks a year on, I’m quite glad that he didn’t.

As Rodgers explained it, everything was known that the Packers moved on. Then how come everyone was waiting for him and the announcement today??

No Aaron, everyone was waiting on you. Yes, the Packers had to seek trades because that was one of the scenarios. It something that happens all the time.

If there is any angst over this whole thing, then Rodgers hands are just as dirty.

But. Hooray!! We get to move on. And go Packers to get as much compensation as possible.

Thank you PF!

AR could have and should have announced quite some time ago (1) the Packers wanted to trade him (2) that he wanted to play football again. However, he intentionally choose not to disclose. Love how he conveniently uses the media to his advantage.

In 5 minutes flat AR could create his own Youtube version of what happened and what was going on & send it out to the internet. I think a lot of half-truths being shared.

The Packers should wait until Lamar Jackson is either signed by another team or the Ravens match the offer. The Jets would literally have Zack Wilson as the only QB on the roster and their fanbase wants to burn him alive or possibly Carson Wentz, who every fanbase who he's played for wants him to be shot while being burned alive, buried, dug up and shot again. Talk about compensation when the jets don't have any other viable option.

Negotiating in bad faith is a poor business model in the long run. There was most likely a general sense of what the trade terms were going to be when permission to go beg Rodgers to play was given to the Jets. Details maybe not but I find it hard to believe the FO said sure go chat we’ll talk later….

It would be pretty hard to believe the Packers didn't make it clear what they wanted before giving the Jets permission to talk to Rodgers. It's possible the Jets feel that was the maximum and not where they wanted to go, but they should have been clear up front what their maximum would be. Seems neither party thought about the ramifications of a loose understanding while then engaging Rodgers. I've heard both the Jets don't want to be on the hook for all of Rodgers salary and don't want to surrender 2 firsts. Both sides need to move a bit in that case - if the Packers pick up salary then the jets have to move on the draft picks (and vice versa)

I see this comment all the time but there's no evidence that would've made any difference for the 2022 season. Watson was hurt all of training camp and missed three games during the first half of the season. The other 5 games he barely played. He did nothing until Week 10 against the Cowboys. None of that was his fault because he was injured and it just took time to heal and get experience. Romeo Doubs also had an up and down season and missed a big chunk of the middle of the year.

What else did this offense have besides Lazard? Watson and Doubs were the best receivers besides lazard and they were both in and out all year. Watkins and Amari Rodgers were so bad that they were cut during the season. This offense had nothing.

If anyone listens to what Rodgers said and has any animosity towards him, then that is on you. I thought it was great how much love he showed for GB and its fans. It was nice hearing how he thinks Love will do as well.

It is bittersweet. Rodgers had a hell of a good career in GB. It has come to end and is time to move on. But I just have to say I appreciate his time in GB. He brought us a Super Bowl and brought us tons of joy over the last 15 years.

If in this weird world he happened to come onto this website and happened to read my comments, I would just like to thank him for everything he has done for us Packer fans.

Irish,
I don't want to take anything away from AR and what he accomplished but it always comes down to what are the right measurements. I know for Rodgers it is about his stats & MVP.

Maybe he is the greatest but there are guys like Don Hutson & Bart Starr as examples that might have a legitimate argument. World Championships & Super Bowls are the definition of greatness. To me there are a lot of great Packer players but likely no one player better than the other greats!

Made-up is that AR carried anything here since 2012. Can make up all the L in games when it counts. Can make up a terrible playoff stats with so much help.
All is made up. Even that Mark M won twice as much SB titles.

AR wasted his prime, even all he dos is blame someone else.

Look at his circle of friends and everything gets clear. The nly thing its made up is that AR is a good leader or teammate. He never was.

He could very well win another SB with the Jets, but it would make him any better as a human.

Best comment I have read on this subject Bottlefliper. I have followed the Packers for over 62 years. Rodger's is a great regular season QB, but subpar in big play-off games. I did not see Rodger's have the ability to attract players to come to Green Bay because he was the greatest. IMO Rodgers is a diva, very self-centered, and is not the most personable human being. He has put himself above the team, the fans, & Packers organization far too many times. Rodgers deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. For me personally, he fits into the Hall of Shame. HIs actions speak louder than the words he has had time to rehearse!

He had done nothing for me since 10 years. But I dont care. He never played the way he gets paid. But I dont care. He never made anyone around him better, besides his 3 buddies, more the opposite. But I dont care. If he lies and is afraid to help in a crisis I dont care either, its just who he always was.
I dont even care that he was not good at all in most play off games since the run. MM has twice as much SB wins.
But I do care hwo to carries himself on and off the field. He is not 10% Packer People and he is not whatthe Packers are all about. He throws everyone under the bus all the time, even its not directly. His chryptic lies are not smart at all, even he thinks it is. And if someone thinks he is so smart, thats the best sign he is not at all.
He has seldom used his influence for something good and has never spoken up like so many other VIPs. Just for his behalf and just trashing the guys who are easy targets.
Nearly every player who is leaving the Packers did not like him, besides Adams; Coob and JJ out of 100! And its no wonder.

And if in this world, that makes people like him weird, I would thank him for leaving. The world needs way more Lombardis and not the opposite of people....

Although I've seen it comming, although I considered Rodgers a poor leader (and genius QB the same time) I feel sad. He's a legend and legends shouldn't move. What is more I really counted on real bomb, not scenario everyone waited for. I thought he will do something unexpected but he didn't. My childish expectations were that he will finally show up as a team leader, say he's not going anywhere, take a paycut to help team and write his new chapter as a GB legend, not only on the field. That would be really huge, appreciated and remembered. But it seems like really it's all about "me"... the best Packer ever as he described himself modestly...

I just don't get two things:
1. He was 90% on retiring and than turned into playing for Jets. So why not to retire?
2. The fact he started with long story about Jordan Love I think it is where it all starts and ends. From my narrow point of view through internet articles I see that he is not the right person to complain about communication and transparency. 3 straight years he was the one not havng answers, not ready to commit. He's got Cobb, he's got the highest contract ever and it was said it's in his hands if he wants to play or not. Why shouldn't I believe this commitment of FO when I didn't hear Aaron's: "I'm in!" - right after? Simple words we've all (fans, teammates, organisation members) waited for.

Today our last 2 playoff exits bite me again. I think he deserved one more ring with us although in both games he wasn't his normal self. That would change everything. Now we all feel weird no matter if we wanted him go or stay.

Matt,
Great post!

I did think AR presented himself well. A couple or three things that did jump out to me though were:

1. Transparency and how he wanted the Packers to be transparent. Seems to me he wants transparency one way, but not for him to ever want to be transparent. What is it like almost 70-days since the end of the season for him to open up about wanting to play?
2. He talked once again about how the Packer organization treats aging veteran players....and now him. How naive and obviously he has never worked in a Corporate setting (though the GBP's are a Corporation). This is how Corporate America operates. People get fired, and/or laid off all the time usually with no advance warning. Sometimes they have security march you to the door for exiting.
3. He laughed that he did not provide a list, however he did discuss his 'boys' and who he liked/wanted. Half-truth? That is providing a list just not a written list.

Overall, I thought he did a great job & thank him for a lot of fun years leading my favorite sports team.

I felt badly for the ESPN guys, former players I respected, who to this day have to constantly talk about that knob.

Matt, well said. It’s not easy, because there’s this dichotomy. Almost as if we’re trying to comprehend two different people, honoring the glory of one, yet unable to recognize the fuckery of the other.

Couldn’t think of a better word there.

He lost me when he disrespected Greg Jennings. Who was made out to be the villain?

Jennings helped make Rodgers. And, I loved Rodgers to that point. My first red flag of many.

Those who know me know I want our QBs to liberally use our RBs. It saves the QB wear & tear, keeps your D fresh, wears out opposing Ds, makes them play honest, opens up so much more in the passing game.

I’m hypersensitive to QBs dissing phenomenal RBs behind them to hero ball. Rodgers learned that from Favre, always wanting to outdo Favre.

That kind of BS takes away Ws. We lost more games, important games we should not have, because two All-Pro RBs had to SPLIT 13 carries. (Adios, those other 3-4 Super Bowls we should have won. Hey Brett, Elway knew how to hand the goddam rock off. Prick.)

Sorry Jamaal Williams. Sorry Aaron Jones. Sorry AJ Dillon. There’s MVPs to win.

Favre did same to Ahman Green. Mike Sherman had the same deferment to Favre that LaFleur displayed with Rodgers.

I guess Jennings was the beginning of the end for me in seeing Rodgers as a complete legendary figure. Man, did that sucker snowball from there.

Why would the Pack cut him? He is guaranteed $60 million this year. He would compete with Love, or back Love up until a team needing a QB contacts the Packers prior to the trading deadline. There is a lot of time between now and the trade deadline. This is why Gutey has a ton of leverage with the Jet's.

I'm guessing you don't like batting against a change-up? I was simply trying to change the color of the walls in here. With that said, Why would they cut him? I think it's very simple really. Whether he retires, get's traded, or is cut, GB will be off the hook for his future cap hit beyond the 23 season(unless I am mistaken). Also, do you really think GB can "honestly" bring him back after all of this? Would AR really just hold a clipboard just for the money? GB, IMO, is playing Love in 23 no matter what. GB can't afford AR's cap hit. In other words, if you truly think that AR could possibly play in GB this coming season, You're definitely seeing something I'm not. I would enjoy being enlightened by your thoughts.

I agree the Packers have a ton of leverage on the Jets, but not due to a trading deadline next fall.

It seems clear Rodgers will not be on the roster for 2023. Even Rodgers, prior to the darkness, was planning to retire. Seeing the light, he now intends to play for the Jets.

If the Jets bail (they won't), the Packers would be entertaining calls until the June 1 cut. Rodgers can accept the trade or retire...something the Pack has already planned for a few months ago.

Aaron could play for any NFL team on his terms.

This makes post June 1 cut deadline important. Packers have leverage until then. The Jets know all this. The two teams are in the "lets deal" phase now.

But also expect Packers are letting Jets know other suitors are calling. Rodgers leverage not to be traded to a team not the Jets, is retirement.

And it is now clear the Pack would be fine with Rodgers retiring. That decision was made months ago.

Sheesh, 4 downvotes for trying to have fun. What has CHTV come to?

I'm not familiar with any other team's cap situations so it's hard for me to say what is realistic but I would have loved to see him go to the Raiders (one of my backup fav teams) to play with Adams again. Speaking of Adams, I thought that the media getting all worked up about his posts this past week was hilarious when it was quite obvious he was throwing out a dig at said media for harassing him about ARod news.

The Jets fan base is now at a fevered pitch, just waiting for management to do this deal.
Packers have no timetable, no need to hurry, can just wait for the Jets to cave to their price."

I read that too and totally believe this is the case. Woody took his whole front office and flew all the way to CA and spent 4-5 hours with AR. Then flew all the way back! The Jet's are stuck between a rock and a wall. Unless a Stafford or Jackson becomes available (for a higher compensation package) they have to make the trade for AR. The Jet fans are demanding this trade!

Very unfortunate for Stafford but very fortuitous for GB - because if I had to choose between a healthy Stafford and Rodgers - at this point in their careers - I'm choosing Stafford.

The Jets IMO have the upper hand because a) there are other QB's out there who are younger b) if they keep there 1 and bundle they may just move up and get a new young stud C) the packers have no bargaining power -time yes, power no because Rodgers screwed them today saying its the Jets or retirement. D) the jets can tell the pack take the deal or we move on, he retires, you pay his huge bonus and get nothing in return.

The most important part has happened - a sort of memorandum of understanding by all parties. Now it's just a matter of negotiation - which probably will take several days - due to multiple back and forth, posturing, delayed responses etc. However both the Jets and the Packers are motivated to make it happen - so there is a 90+% chance that it will. Also Gutekunst should be entirely in charge of the negotiations - with support from Ball. Thus a good time to send Murphy to scout some more HS basketball games.

Its been a great many years, some amazing games/highlights I saw live I'll always remember. I'll cheer for him, especially since, if the trade does indeed happen, he'll be in the AFC. Executives are supposed to be able to execute with logic without caving to emotional noise. It takes exceptional discipline to do so and it's a major reason why they're handsomely compensated. Like an average Joe, Packer management succumbed to fear and failed to deliver. Terrible comms transparency, and now we're in a standoff to (eventually) accept less for our asset in a trade. I'm happy for Aaron and hope he crushes it Elway style. Would love to see a NYJ-GB Super Bowl in the next two years with the Jets winning, but highly doubtful given the leadership at 1265.

I doubt that your disdain for mgmt makes you an outlier - plenty of people jumping on that bandwagon. I tend to agree that they've made some real head scratching decisions starting with the hiring "process" of MLF. That has little to do with my enjoyment of watching the team play though.

I would guess that becoming a Jets and Vikings fan for Favre would make you more of an outlier though. Maybe I'm just more mature now but I saw Favre in a much more negative light after he left than I do over Rodgers now. Favre literally said that he was retiring for like 3 years in a row and changed his mind (not to mention at least a couple of legit scandals that made national news since then). Rodgers at least had the decency to say he wasn't sure. I'll be watching the Jets with great interest if he does land there when I'm not rooting for Love and the Packers.

Just wait until the jets/new york fans start ripping rodgers for overthrowing a deep reciever when three reicievers were open underneath.
Wait until he over throws or underthrows short patterns and watch the ball sail away.
Good luck jets.
Packer fans have been watching that scene for a long time now.
If you do make it to the playoffs watch Rogders tent fold as we have for it seems forever.
He may be smart but father time is undefeated.
His last year in GB seemed to me to show his physical prowness is failing.

That's EXACTLY what I said a month ago! A 2 this year and a conditional 1 next year.

I'm leaning towards a 2 this year, a 1 next year, and a conditional additional pick or a player.

That would be nice. The other option I heard was the pack waiting til after June 1, then they save like 26 mil on his bonus and they can ask for a 2024 pick instead and none this year.
My guess, a two pick this year and a 3 and 5 pick next year, no 1 pick is on the table.

T,
Man it could go so many ways. So many ways!

Personally, I strongly believe the majority of draft choices should be this year. At minimum a first this year, if not a first & second. If we wait until next year then even if the draft choice is a good player it likely will take until 2025 for them to really step up and show. Let's start this season, particularly since the trade will be dissected nationally every single day through the rest of the year & next year.

The Jets fan base is now at a fevered pitch, just waiting for management to do this deal.
Packers have no timetable, no need to hurry, can just wait for the Jets to cave to their price.

The Jets and Packers are negotiating. Haggling over price. Jets have some pressure building.

Have the Texans called? How about the Ravens? Who else? The Patriots?

I just hope Murphy finally lets Gutey do this.

Murphy capitulating last year to keep Rodgers happy was an incredible waste of time and money. Let Gutey run the football operation. Be like Bob Harlan. Great Packers President.

This is partially true but misleads in part.

1. GB could end up with the same 3rd they got for Favre in 2008 if they screw this up. GB can wait, but not indefinitely.

2. Cap is easier with AR on the team than if he is traded - $31.6M versus $40.3M dead. BUT - if AR is on GB's roster in September, it is a damned disaster.

3. Having motivated AR to play, what basis is there to believe he isn't in the building in June, July, August and September?

4. True enough. IDK Woody Johnson well enough to know if he would let the Jets FO back out of the deal.

5. True enough. Some Jets fans in the threads don't like AR and think trading for him is a bad idea. I don't know what the general fanbase thinks. NY hasn't won a super bowl since 1968.

6. Perhaps. Could be that team that comes calling late is waving just a 3rd round pick.

I think Brandt is pretty astute. I don't dismiss his ideas without some thought. I don't know how hyped up the Jets are. Flying their whole FO and some coaches out suggests Brandt might be correct.

“if AR is on GB's roster in September, it is a damned disaster.”

I don’t think this can be underestimated then or earlier and he would have a lot of reasons to show now as it’s clear he will see the Packers as responsible by being too greedy if the trade fails. He set that out yesterday by essentially saying he’d earned some flexibility on the team’s part to get this done.

With his character, having him in the locker room would be utterly untenable. It’s not an option. That extra 9 million cap will be a price we will have to swallow, along with no compensation. That extension is the millstone that may yet drag us under.

Rodgers has acknowledged it is over with the Packers. Either he gets traded, retires (90% chance prior to the darkness), or gets cut post June 1.

He has known this since he cleaned out his locker. The Jets know this too. Since then, the Jets hired Hackett and paid $44 Mil for WR#3 in Lazard...both bro mates of Aaron. Aaron also emerged into the light and declared he wanted to play for the Jets who jetted out to CA to grease the skids. Lots of buying signals!

And the Packers and Jets are negotiating. Packers want to sell at list price, Jets want a bargain. Just handling objections before the close. Always a chance the deal falls through, but if both are bargaining in good faith, they will meet in the middle.

If the deal falls through, other teams will call to inquire. Jets can hope to wait until after the post June 1 cut but that is risky. BB from New England Central would probably call...can you imagine if AR ended up there if the Jets failed in negotiations?

SH: Rodgers sat for 3 years, learning behind an aging Favre. Love was drafted just as AR was; to take over when the QB was nearing the end of his career. IF you are a Packers fan, why would you want Love to get hurt, IF you are a Packers fan why are almost all of your posts negative, criticizing every move the team makes. Green Bay has the 2nd best record in the NFL since 2010, out of 32 teams. Credit goes to the GM, coaches, and players that the GM assembled. Give up the hate already. How about posting something positive? Packers reworked Jones, Preston, Alexander, Bakhtiari, and Campbell already. Gute and Ball restructured contracts two years ago and brought back 19 of 21 free agents. I like the Packers, win or lose. I get enough negative stuff turning on the news. All of these QB's were traded; Brady, Unitas, Montana, Manning, Wilson. Should the GM/owner be fired for doing that?

If the Jet's have not gotten a commitment from him for at least 2 seasons no matter what level of compensation they have to give to the Packers to seal the deal then they can't say "We Are Not Idiots" as Murphy has said. I grew up withing walking distance to the original City Stadium and have watched practice and attended games since Tobin Rote was the QB and Rodgers is the best "thrower of a football" I have ever seen and it is not even close. To win Championships many things have to be in place and unfortunately the front office never gave Rodgers the type of offensive talent required to win more than one and instead favored upgrading the defensive side of the football instead (along with little regards for special teams play) and the net result was when Rodgers finally had a Top 10 Defense they won it all.
