Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - Quiet Time

The Weekly Packers Brain Drain from Jersey Al.

We've officially entered the only time of the year that the NFL takes a back seat in the news - unless some player gets arrested or says something benign on Twitter that gets blown up into an international incident (see Love, Jordan). I will likely take a week or two off from this column in July, but for now, I soldier on.

Preston Smith - Great to hear the veteran speak up and say how critical it is for this Packers' defense, with all the high draft capital talent they have, to step up and make things easier for their new quarterback.

"With so much talent on our defense, we know we have to step it up a lot, and knowing we have a young quarterback, we have to be tremendous this year. We have to make sure we step up and do our part to help (Love) to get comfortable out there on the field. Help him get the ball in great situations and get stops to let him get comfortable back there and make sure we put him in great situations. It's not just about him putting us in great situations, but helping us be comfortable to put him in great situations with the ball in great field position and getting stops. So he can go down the field and get us touchdowns and do his thing and gain his confidence throughout the season."

Bakhtiari Back - It's the offseason and only conjecture, but everything we're hearing and seeing likely exceeds all our expectations regarding the health of David Bakhtiari for the 2023 season.

Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu - I can hear it now - every time Lukas Val Ness gets a sack. I am totally hyped up on this guy and I am not alone:

Need More data! - Dusty Evely recently did an examination of run success on under-center handoffs versus shotgun handoffs for Packer Report. The results were pretty much identical except for one condition - "What about AJ Dillon in the low red zone (< 10 yd line)? On under-center rushes, Dillon averaged 1.9 YPA and scored a TD 38.4% of the time. On shotgun rushes, he averaged 1.9 YPA and scored a TD 25% of the time."  What I'd love to see is the data on Dillion from inside the 2-3 yard line and goal to go. That's where my perception is that things break down even further and success rate decreases more. Is it just my perception or is it reality?

Goodson - Interesting to read that TY Goodson worked out with Aaron Jones for a month this off-season. Training camp reports have mentioned Goodson as having stepped up his game and I'm sure it's no coincidence after working with and being pushed by Aaron Jones and his brother, Alvin. Oh, and for probably the 500th time, how good of a dude and teammate is Aaron Jones?

Hyped Up - So evidently, there is a social media analysis tool called "hypeauditor," which was used to measure the education and intelligence level of NFL fans. Packers fans were found to be the fifth smartest, with Bills fans taking the top spot (surprising). Not surprisingly, Bears fans were ranked 29th and Vikings fans were 31st. I think those results legitimize the tool, dontcha think?

Press & Luuuuu! I can dig it.

The Lukas Van Ness pick at #13 during April’s draft cannot be understated.

The Packers ranked #2 in pass rush snaps resulting in a pressure before Gary went down. After? #28…

Taking nothing away from Gary, as the man needs a prudent timetable to return from his ACL suffered in Week 9 of 2022, having a motivated Preston Smith calling for the entire defense to step up is HUGE. I like seeing Preston cementing a leadership role in setting team goals on D.

Preston & Lukas working the edges will go a long way towards making that a reality. Both players bring quality pass rush & run stop. The impact of Preston, a team leader and LVN opposite helps all 3 levels of this Packers D.

LVN allows the Packer to be conservative with Gary’s return, which could pay dividends late in the season when both players can be paired.

The ballhawks benefiing big time will be fun to see, giving the ball back to Love to pile in points.

You all know who else benefits… interior DL. Top run stop OLBs funneling runs inside should help Clark, Slayton & Wyatt clean up. Anybody else stoked to see Quay Walker & Devonte Wyatt working off each other?

Looking forward to more defensive scores as well, which I think we’ll see.

Bakhtiari returning to minicamps healthy is indeed big. Sounds from everything I’ve heard that he & Elgton are motivated to own that left side of our OL again. Good.

Speaking of… Goodson could be a nice change of pace added to Jones & Dillon. I think Goodson makes this 53, and that all 3 RBs get put to better use with Love under Center.

Also looking forward to Dusty Evely having a ton of great film on Love & all of our Packers to review..!!! Dusty ROCKS!

Can’t wait to see all of it. Great stuff, Al!

I grew up an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Though I've lived in Texas for 44 years, I still watch all their games. I loved TJ Hockenson as a prospect, not too high on Noah Fant. Tyler Goodson definitely stood out as a very talented back at Iowa. I now have a confession, Lucas Van Ness looked to me to be an excellent college player, but I prayed we wouldn't draft him. I didn't see him prospering in the NFL. It's looking like I was really wrong. I hope so. All ya'll should be thankful I'm not the Packers GM.

Luke Ness Monster!! I'm hoping the crowd is deafening with that first time he's on the field. Actual fan SUPPORT can be huge! It's looking like he might not be a starter right away, but I don't think they can help but give him at least some playing time.

Very cool for #33 to take Goodson under his wing :)

A healthy Bakh! Add Gary and Stokes to that ...

Preston Smith is spot on.
Sad to see Bakh’s Packer career coming to a close.
LVN has great versatility but I’m not confident Barry won’t squander it.
Run blocking has been atrocious in the deep red zone.

Everybody's talking like it's a sure thing Bakh is done. It's possible he still plays great for 5 years. It's also possible he's traded after the bye ...

I'm thinking he doesn't play at all on turf, which gives somebody else 5 games to show they can fill his shoes, beginning week 2. If nobody can, why would he be traded?

Smith... I like hearing Smith talk and he SHOULD. He's one of three Packers to actually be at least 30 years old on the current 90 man roster, AND he's been doing this at a high level for years. IMO Preston Smith needs to STAY vocal in his support of his teammates and being a leader.

Lukas Van Ness... The chant would be cool...Winning DROY would be even better. That's my "Bold Prediction" and I'm sticking to it...Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

Goodson... I was excited when I heard Goodson looked good this year. Hanging out with Aaron Jones is a pretty damn smart move too. I hope I continue to read and hear many more positives about Goodson all year long.

Hyped Up...I KNEW IT!!! I just knew it. Bears and Vikings fans ranked 29th and 31st...Isn't that a little high for Bears fans though?

Bears fans fared poorly because they responded, "1985!", to 9 of 10 questions.

My thoughts exactly SH. The defense's mentality should have always been that way regardless of who their QB was. The job of the defense is to stop the opponent, not count on the QB to overcome their complacency that the QB would overcome their deficiency.

So, there was no room for anyone to talk while his "Majesty" was there.

Also who is TRUMON Williams? If you thought about Tramon Williams, I agree with you that TW was way better at CB, than AJ Dillon ever was at that position.

So huge Packers fan is the one who was not able to remember the name of the top positive prrsonality on Packers roster. His name was JAMAAL Williams, and he was playing same position as AJ Dillon.

All speculation. If the OL does its job, all the RBs look like world-beaters.

Taylor clearly brought something off the PS that the coaching staff and management didn't think they'd get from Goodson. Role is important.

The sample sizes on these guys as runners and pass-catchers is very small. Don't be suckered by flash. There are plenty of guys who profile like Goodson on the street and on PS after final cutdowns.

Right, dobber. I'd like to know, based off of what exactly, SH? What 6 games? Taylor only played RB in 4 games in 2021.

Week 2 v. SEA Taylor had 2 attempts for 7 yds.
Week 3 v. MIN Taylor had 4 attempts for 11 yds.
Week 8 v. MIN Taylor had 6 attempts for 18 yds.
Week 9 v. DETROILET Taylor had 11 attempts for 53 yds.

Taylor didn't break a single tackle. What on Earth are we talking about here?

Yes, don't see Dillon being re-signed. For a two pick he hasn't broken the 1,000 yard mark ( 17 games). If Bhak stays upright, he should be extended, secure an OT with '24s One Pick and trade the Fans. See how the competition goes in camp between Goodson, Taylor and Nichols. I can't see keeping two light RBs on the 53.
I like the MAC guy putting 220 Lbs on the defender. The NFL has essentially eliminated the FB position with the New Rules. It is on LaFleur to dictate a more physical and aggressive offensive scheme, using Deguara on the move and Kraft taking the opposition out in space. Get this Offense moving Vertical.

NY Jets fans were 30th and NY Giants fans 32nd. Hypeauditor may be a perfect tool.

Players come and players go, but the one constant is my love for the Green Bay Packers. Former Packers are irrelevant, especially when the Packers don’t even play their teams. The only thing that is relevant is that Rodgers plays in >65% of the Jets snaps because even the 32nd pick is better than a 2nd round pick.

At the beginning of "pickle season", Al, you still find something to talk about. Nice and thank you. I'm sorry to hear that we will be without your "column" for whole 2 weeks through July, but when man has to rest, he has to. I wish you very pleasent and very restful vacation.

"unless some player gets arrested or says something benign on Twitter that gets blown up into an international incident (see Love, Jordan)." I saw his congrats to Bears fans about fathers' day. It looks like, at least to me that he was mocking them through that statement - those are opportunity for bears fans to have at least something to celebrate...

Well, I hope Preston need to insist on that through TC and through the games, leading by example, not leaving said words empty.

If people from that reasearch really believe that Packers fans are top 5 smartest, were it put those bears and vikings expectation for the season?

Somehow, I'm certain that Luke Van Ness will play on high note, but I'm more interested in Brendon Cox - will he and what bring to the table. If both of them will be successful, opponents, look out. Rashan, Preston, Luke, Brendon will give Packers opportunity to be constantly fresh at rushing the passer and stoping the run. It will also help those 2 to 3 men at DL.

Regarding AJD. You are right, by my opinion. He scored most of his rushing TD at short distances from the end zone.

Goodson already showed to Packers his elusiness, speed and quick burst, similar to Aaron Jones. He should be 3rd RB this season w/o any doubts.

Once again, good vacation Al.

I think Goodson can be a very good piece, but to me he is an even better pass catcher than Jones but not as elusive a runner, that’s still pretty high praise but Jones’s ability to get through non existent holes is the bit missing. I wanted Goodson in a slot/option role late last year, but he’s going to have to improve in blitz pickup/protection.

Thus far, in shorts, I expect him to shine over the other two, who are both power backs. Let’s see what happens and whether Goodson can force himself into the slot option role absent the last year or two. If he can, that’s where he and we both win. As a backup on key running downs or in high protection, not so much.

I'm for trading David Bakhtiari to another team for a second round draft pick. I like Bakhtiari, but not for the money he's being paid. Granted, Bakhtiari could do well for another two or three years, but not for the salary he's getting for the next couple of years. And there's the very real possible chance that Bakhtiari will not recover his older physical health. His injured knee could easily break down during the coming season. It's a gamble that Bakhtiari's injury holds up at his age. Trade him while he still seems somewhat healthy enough to other teams who believe he might be immediately serviceable.

"I'm for trading David Bakhtiari to another team for a second round draft pick. I like Bakhtiari, but not for the money he's being paid."

The restructure the Packers and Bakh agreed to in March means there's minimal savings on Bakhtiari in trade. They're paying pretty much the same in 2023 whether he plays for the Packers or for someone else.

https://overthecap.com/player/david-bakhtiari/2377

In order to get much in return in a trade, Bakh's going to need to show he can practice and play. Quality LTs can play a long time in the league, and ACLs are not the death sentence they once were. He rated highly in pass pro in 2022. We'll have to see how his run blocking returns, but LTs for the most part aren't paid to be road graders, they make their money keeping QBs clean...and he does that. Some say "he won't play on turf", but I doubt the Packers would've agreed to a restructure of this sort if they didn't think he'd be a full time player.

I was firmly in the "trade Bakh" camp up 'til the restructure. That ship has sailed, at least until close to the trade deadline.

"His injured knee could easily break down during the coming season. It's a gamble that Bakhtiari's injury holds up at his age."

You can say that about most players with significant lower extremity injuries: ACL, achilles. Of course there's a gamble, but he was back on the field in 2022 (up 'til his appendectomy), and playing well. The Packers--who know way more about his knee than any of us worry-bus riders do--clearly see more gain in having him around than letting him go.

I agree, dobber.

There’s no savings trading him this year, save for his minimal base salary as currently constructed of around $1.5M. Bakhtiari is essentially pre-paid for 2023. I guess with some bonuses added in, overall the Packers could realize around $4M in cap windfall, but at what cost in terms of top level play at the 2nd most important position on any team?

I’m wondering if the whole picture has flipped? Thought for sure Bakhtiari would follow AR to NYJ. Reason being was the structure of his contract with around 95% of his 2023 monies paid out up front in cash, coupled with a 2024 poison pill that would require a new deal.

Never considered the possibility DB might have actually preferred to stay in GB. If that is in fact the case, next move for the Packers would have to include a contract extension that would push that $40M+ out through what I’m guessing would be the remainder of his playing days to retirement. Or, close to, as some high quality LTs can play well into their late 30s or longer.

Something has to give there, as that 2024 number makes both keeping him or trading him at that figure pretty much impossible.

His last deal was one of the weirdest I can recall from a contract structure standpoint. I’d love to know the logic behind its construction.

I could see him finishing his career in GB with a new 5 year deal. Easy. He’s 31 years old.

Probably a good bet the Packers are simply waiting to see how he plays in 2023 before cementing an extension.

"His last deal was one of the weirdest I can recall from a contract structure standpoint. I’d love to know the logic behind its construction."

With the Packers' widespread use of void years in recent contract work, I was a little surprised to see none. Perhaps the Packers were trying not to push extra hit out on a player they plan to cut ties with after 2023...void years would've pushed some of the cap off 2023, but if they weren't planning on Bakh being in town past that, would've just added more onto an already tight 2024.

It feels like both sides agreed to a "shit or get off the pot" year in 2023. It certainly forces the Packers' hand WRT a cut/trade/extension.

I understand the desire to trade Bak after watching all that Denver Gold disappear only to be replaced by a $40 Mil dead cap hit this year.

I may be in the minority, but do not trade a leader, all pro, top NFL LT this during Love and the young O's first campaign. The synergy between David and Jenks on the Packers' Left is sublime and the Offense needs it. If a similar synergy can also be created on the Right...look out!

I would keep Bahk for this year. The Packers have six good O-linemen and a crap shoot after that. Newman regressed, Jones, Walker and Rhyan are unknowns and Hanson should be gone. There is too much uncertainty behind Bahk to trade him this year. I suspect he will be gone next year due to the $40 million due on his contract and hopefully one or more of the backups proving their worth.

1) Bakhtiari helps us more this year than a #2 pick in next year's draft.
2) Trading him does not improve our financial situation.
3) Nothing happens on offense unless people get blocked.
4) We have six legitimate offensive linemen. We need more, not fewer.
5) He's the best lineman we have at the most important position on the line.

Best scenario has Bakhtiari playing well for us this year, while Jones and Walker and Tom and Rhyan improve, and then he gets traded after the season.

There may be better options than trading Bakh next year. Seeing if anybody else can fill his shoes is important.

More important is getting C and right side of our O line dominant

Fireball, while that is of course a possibility, it's also possible that he plays great for another 5 years. Reviewing all plays Dusty's linked, Bakh absolutely DOMINATED each and every time.

I expect Bakh not to play at all on turf, which would mean 5 games and begins week 2. Plenty of time to see if we've got anyone who can fill his shoes.

If not, $20MM looks awful cheap compared to doing without him.

So, if they make the playoffs and it's on truf, he won't play? Revamp the line for the playoffs again???

"I will likely take a week or two off from this column in July"
I don't approve of this. Sorry Al.

Preston Smith -
There is a lot of talent on the field. My greatest concern with the talent we have on the defense is if we have the right guy putting them in the right spots. Last year I don't believe that was the case. Hopefully that will be the case this year.

Bakhtiari Back -
Having our LT back at full strength for the first time in what feels like a decade, is a huge thing for our offense. Not only the LT spot is locked down but our LG is also locked down. We have the best left side of the OL in football. That will help Love a ton.

Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu -
I can hear it now - every time Lukas Val Ness gets a sack. I am totally hyped up on this guy and I am not alone:
With a lot of the hype of this draft being on the offensive playmakers they drafted (Musgrave, Reed, Kraft, Wicks, DuBose), some how not a lot of hype has been surrounding Van Ness. I have a feeling that will change once pads come on and the preseason hits.

Need More data! -
I know we haven't done it but I really want to see what Dillon and the offense could do in the Pistol. Dillon running towards the OL getting the ball with momentum seems like a good idea to me. Putting your players in the best position to succeed to me is a great thing.

Goodson -
I wanted Goodson to be on the 53 last year. I felt he could have given them the Tyler Ervin type of player in the offense. I shouldn't read to much into it, but from how I interpreted things, it sounded like Goodson needed to do some maturing? If that was the case, a year on the PS could do him wonders. Learning how to be a pro and what it takes to succeed at this level. But spending time with Jones this offseason will only make him better.
Goodson I believe could be a very good weapon in our offense this year. He provides the ability to run or catch. He has speed and shiftiness that can be a major weapon for us. I'm looking forward to seeing Goodson this camp!

Hyped Up -
Seems pretty accurate.

"sounded like Goodson needed to do some maturing?" I think, like Jones did as a rookie" he needed to work on his pass protection blocking. The article I read said he bulked up a little too, so that will help.

Whoever the third back ends up being, has to win it by excelling on special teams.

... "I really want to see what Dillon and the offense could do in the Pistol." I think Jones is better at the goal line. He scored a lot of TDs two years ago, many from inside the ten, then last year they went more with Dillon. Jones finds the gaps or breaks outside and has more power than people think. Dillon seems to bull into the line and even with those monstrous legs, you can't push back a thousand pounds of DL.

--Van Ness has that Nick Bosa look. Come on, a guy can dream.
-- Love Prestons attitude especially since he might be a cap casualty next season.
-- RB another interesting position to watch in preseason. Nichols has college #'s that are hard to ignore at 220 lbs.
--- A 70% Bak is still very good, and gives us more time to find a future LT. I don't envision him being here next season, even with a 19 mill dead cap hit, but 21 mill savings.

Nichols and Goodson will have to beat out Taylor (odd to type "beat out" a "Taylor"). That is not a given.

Three solid backups and I would not surprised to see the two who are not #3 both on the PS.

LP, these are good problems to have! Doesn't make up for not being able to keep Jamaal Williams, but still. Agreed we need to keep all 3. Have no idea if we'll be able to keep #33 and 28 next year, lose them both or what. Still substantial cap hell, we're going to lose some good players somewhere.

Quiet time, where there's so little NFL content to chat about, and I focus on... Why do soccer fans seem to have a monopoly on clever chants and cheers? Luuuuuuuu? Isn't his nickname Hercules? There's something better there. I think the more clever among the CHTV commenters could have a good one. That's not me, but I'll give it a shot. Tell me hearing Packer fans at Soldier Field chanting, "Hercules! Hercules! Hercules!" ala Nutty Professor after Van Ness sacks Fields wouldn't make you smile?

Seriously, I'm pumped for camp. I can't wait to see Hercules and Bahk in one-on-ones, the right side of the OL getting situated, Love and the young skill players developing chemistry, the DL rotation, who's starting beside Savage, Carlson booting long ones. This is an under-the-radar squad, and I've got a feeling they're going to surprise many.

Interesting facts from Dusty Everly, Al.

Also from Dusty:

Of the 67 QBs since 2019 who attempted at least 100 (non RPO) passes past the line of scrimmage to the MIDDLE OF THE FIELD, Rodgers ranked 65th.

Think of the production the Offense could have this year using ALL the football real estate. BTW, the QB who ranked #1 above was Brock Purdy, who ran the SB offense the Packers HC finally wants to emulate this year.

This "between the numbers" refocus for the Offense is going to be fun to watch!

Also, regarding trading Bak this season...no. No. Let me be clear...no. Even with David on the team with his cap hit AND the Rodgers $40 Mil dead cap, the Packers are spending the 2nd FEWEST cap dollars on Offense this season. He is a leader and an elite LT to protect Jordan's blind side. I think Bak is going to Love this season.

LP this is why I'm hoping TE & WR get a lot of targets this season. Short, quick. Dink & dunk. High probability, but I HATE the screens behind the LOS; I've seen too many tackled for loss.

Running an offense like that that's run first, some WRs will get wide open sometime. If JL10 can find them, that'll work. Add that in later, after the whole unit has confidence.

Not a big surprise to me that Pack fans rate high in knowledge of the game.

Now we need those who are fortunate enough to attend the games to get their shit together. Time to take the responsibility as "12th man" seriously. No more "wave" in critical situations, no more "GO PACK GO" when we are under center...

They also need to get their shit together when the D is on the field. I'm one of the fortunate ones that gets to a couple of games a year. If you look around the stands, at a time when the crowd should be going crazy making noise, you'd be amazed at the number of Packer fans sitting on their hands. I don't believe Lambeau gets loud enough to have a negative effect on the oppositions offense.

'I will likely take a week or two off from this column in July'

You deserve it Al. However, you are about the best thing for me on Wednesday mornings, although this time of year I tee off with my buddies at 11:30 so you may be a close second in the summer.

Preston Smith-'"With so much talent on our defense"'

I have always liked Preston Smith. Speaking of talent. I remember a few years back we were very limited once we got by the Smith boys, other than Gary maturing into the great player that he is now. But look at the possibilities we have for this coming year. Preston Smith, LVN, Gary at some point, Enagbare, Hollins, and quite possibly Brendan Cox. This does not even consider the others that are trying to make the team in the Edge Rusher department.

Bahktiari back-I can see it both ways if we should keep him or trade him because of his age and CAP charge. Originally, I thought we should trade him and get what we want but I have changed my mind to that thought. If we are going to truly evaluate how Love does this year, we need to have that left side protection. We need to know if Love is for us in the future or if we need to draft a QB in next year's draft. Having this protection helps us with that decision, or at least it appears to me that it does.

LVN-as my name suggests, I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan as well as a packer fan (down votes here?) With the packers selecting LVN, of course I am excited to a certain degree. As a fan of both, I hope he works out as well as many think. However, if I look at the Iowa defensive line last year, there were a lot of good players and I wonder how much that helped LVN look as good as he does. Also, he should look good early in the year but he will need to learn more moves such as the swim move rather than just the bull rush move. The offense lines of most teams in the NFL will be able to handle him if he only has the bull rush move. I believe he will learn more rush moves and he should thrive in the GB defense.

Goodson 'Training camp reports have mentioned Goodson as having stepped up his game'

As previously mentioned, I am a hawkeye fan have liked Goodson when he was at Iowa. However, the one gripe that I have/had is that in his final year at Iowa, I don't think he looked as good as previous years. The thing that I remember about him running the ball is that he did not like to get hit. Sure he is a smaller type running back with speed but you are going to get hit. I would see him running through the line and if a LB was coming on to hit him, rather than trying to get a yard or two after contact, he would actually back up to not take a hit. Disappointing and that is why I am not as big of fan of his as a lot of posters are here. Not sure what he does for us on ST and as far as using him like Tyler Ervin, I believe we have a couple of wide outs that we can use that are very fast. Also, Nichols sounds pretty impressive. We shall see how things shake out.

No down vote for being a Hawk fan...they are in the B1G after all and they send NFL ready players to the NFL like Hyde, Bulaga, and now Hercules. (I will not bring up Jackson)

Now, if you were a gophers fan....

I totally agree with you on LVN...he will be a good rotational player as long as he develops more than just a bull rush. Bull rushing one trick pony's get erased in the NFL. If he can perfect another few moves he can be great. His intelligence and love for football are great intangibles.

Surprising that you mentioned being a gopher fan. I was visiting with a Madison friend of mine and I brought up our Iowa Wisconsin rivalry and he was fine with the Hawkeyes but he said the Gophers were a different story. He said the fans from these states just do not see eye to eye and simply do not get along very well.

No down vote here either HawkPacker. No way. Great insights.

LVN will be surrounded by more talent on the Packers DL than he had at Iowa, and I’m 100% certain he will grow by leaps & bounds in Green Bay.

I’ll bet Jerry Montgomery had technique work #1 on his list with Van Ness to expand his pass rush offerings. Hopefully, he has a solid TC and enters the season with a number of new tools in the chest.

I can’t wait to see him in action.

I agree Sic. It should be a fun year to watch all of these young players improve game by game as well as when our injured return and will continue to improve as they get healthier (Gary and Stokes) throughout the season.

Just imagine how the team will look the following season. All of the rookies from the prior year will no longer be rookies and Gary and Stokes will be completely healthy by then.

Let's hope for no more bad injuries this year. We have the makings of being a juggernaut next season!

My polluted thoughts.

Yes the defense has to step up to help Love. But will Joe Barry do it? Not sure at this point. No more playing off on third and short. And use Alexander to his all pro abilities.

The Packers need three good RB'S. Because they will lean on the RB'S more this season. Goodson is needed to keep Jones and Dillon fresh. And play when injuries occur, which they will. The Pack need 3000 plus total yards from the RB'S and at least 100 receptions.

And Bahktiari is very needed. Another site had film clips showing just how well his technique and awareness is still excellent. Expecting another good year.

"Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu - I can hear it now - every time Lukas Val Ness gets a sack. I am totally hyped up on this guy and I am not alone:"

Sorry but that sounds really lame (and not that imaginative). However, just imagine if, after a play half the Packers crowd shout "Loch Ness" followed by the other half shouting "Mmmonster !". It's better than Luuuu - and for that matter better than "Go Pack Go" (though I doubt that one will ever die).

Absolutely agree that this time period is one where you don't want to hear news about players because it is typically bad news.

Packers fans being 5th most intelligent football fans is kinda nice. Bears and Vikes scores did make me smile. It would be nice if there was a metric that measured the overall intelligence of posters on various football fan sites. CHTV should get a high score for its content (though the fan comments to its articles is pretty varied).

Being more intelligent than 27 other fandoms, I agree. We require more than "Luuuuu" for Sr. Luke of Hercules.

Too familiar to the Sr. Ted Knight of the Mary Tyler Moore cast in his salutations to Sir Lou Grant.

However, we should forgive Sir Ted for his obnoxious "Louuuu" as he resided in the low IQ fandom region of Minnesota.

Given that its quiet time for us fans, I'd like to throw the following trade idea out there - "trade Bakh while his value is high for a #2 QB?" Now, or very soon into training camp, or even the beginning of season play might be the time...

I just don't want to see us getting nothing for him next year when the cap will make it nearly impossible? He also deserves to be a team that has a better chance of going deeper into the playoffs than we do at this point in time.

I know to many GB purists this trade idea probably sounds like Packer heresy, but it might be the right move at the right time. GB has never had such good prospects on the OLine as they do today. Yes, we would lose a past Pro Bowler but we could sure use an experienced back up QB.

We held onto you-know-who for too long. Lets not make the same mistake again?

CPF,

Bakh might play great for another 5 years. I have yet to find a play where he didn't absolutely dominate. If he doesn't play on turf at all that's 5 games, beginning week 2. If we have somebody who can fill his shoes that's one thing, but if not? He's worth more than any 2 first round picks, assuming JL10 is a keeper.

Our rookie backup QB is perfect for the role, even if he loses this year's battle. And face it if QB goes down to injury this year, we can't make that up.
