2021 Packers Practice Roundup: Day Three

The Packers ran a short practice because it was the third one in three days.  Having shorter and less strenuous practices so far seems to have worked out for the Packers on the injury front.

GENERAL/PERSONNEL:

As of yesterday, the Packers were not at the 85% player vaccination threshold, Matt LaFleur says. Both LaFleur and Mark Murphy don't seem thrilled with where they're at in that regard.  Schneidman

Players are in shells on Day 3.  Practice is lighter since it’s the third day in a row.  Silverstein

Practice No. 3 goes one hour and 33 minutes after Matt LaFleur said it would be a light day.   The last third of the session was at jog-through speed.  Demovsky

Am at practice today but still waiting for something/anything to happen to tweet anything out. When LaFleur said today was going to be a light practice he was not kidding.  Herman

Players I haven’t seen at practice who haven’t previously been out: TEs Marcedes Lewis and Isaac Nauta and G Simon Stepaniak.  Silverstein

I know many laugh at the job of NFL punter but I never stop marveling at what they do. Ryan Winslow, from the 40, kicks it 59 yards and 1 yard from sideline. Amazing.  Huber

Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers are fielding punts together during early warmups.  Silverstein

Molson took all the field goals yesterday; LaFleur said he will rotate the kickers by day.  Huber

QUARTERBACKS/WIDE RECEIVERS:

Jordan Love getting a few reps with first team in a walk through at end of practice. He’s taken almost exclusively second-team reps behind Aaron Rodgers through camp’s first three days.  Wood

Love rifles behind DeAndre Thompkins but it was in a catchable spot in the end zone. Thompkins couldn’t hold on.  Herman

Jordan Love keeps attacking the MOF [middle of the field]. Hit Sternberger for a decent gain earlier, now tries to squeeze one in to a deep crosser and almost gets picked.  Nagler

Rodgers to Rodgers for a touchdown.  Herman

Why the Packers wanted to Aaron Rodgers back so much: on the goal line drill he zips three perfect passes for touchdowns. Love nearly gets picked off in the end zone with a late throw over the middle.  Silverstein

Insane throw up the right sideline from Rodgers to Davante. Good coverage from Stokes, just an absurd throw from Rodgers and patented late hands from 17. Gorgeous play.  Nagler [see tweets under DBs.]

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN:

Dennis Kelly says he feels best at RT, but can play all four spots other than center. He's even gotten starts at TE in jumbo packages…. Wood

Braden at RG [with the 1s].  Herman

Gary having no luck against Elgton Jenkins on the left side. Few have so far this camp.  Nagler

Royce Newman once again showing off his great first step off the line. Able to seal Jack Heflin and open a hole for Dexter Williams who is having a very nice start to camp.  Herman [First mention I have seen of Newman!]

Dennis Kelly getting some work with the 1s at right tackle.  Schneidman

Billy Turner getting some reps at left tackle with Dennis Kelly at right tackle.  Silverstein

DEFENSE:

Dennis Kelly says Titans knew exactly what to do against the Packers’ defense last season. Knew the personnel, what to expect. There were no surprises.  "It just worked out that Green Bay kind of kicked our ass. So that was fun."  Wood  [Hello, Joe Barry]

LINEBACKERS:

Toss to Winfree - Garvin and Kamal Martin all over it for a loss in the backfield.  Herman

DEFENSIVE BACKS:

Sullivan with a great play to get off a Cobb block to make a quick stop of Adams on a WR screen.  Herman

Welcome to the NFL, Eric Stokes: The first-round pick seemingly had good coverage on a fade but Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams was unstoppable for him (and just about everyone else in the league) for a TD.  Demovsky

Rodgers deep to Adams who adjusts perfectly with Josh Jackson lost in coverage. Adams is so damn smooth. The game is so slow to him. He knew exactly when to adjust and Jackson had no chance.  Herman

Darnell Savage Jr. asked what he told Eric Stokes after that TD he gave up to Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers, despite solid coverage.  "There's not many 12s and 17s out there. That's pretty much all you can say."  Wood

MVS with a nice misdirection toss to the outside. Amos did a nice job of getting around a Sternberger block to force him out. Had big play potential.  Herman

Not too many bubble players got mentioned for their work in the day 3 practice. I chose to use a photo of the punter, Ryan Winslow, since Bill Huber's tweet amused me and it seemed so genuine. I ran across this photo of Winslow (#9), Vernon Scott (#36) and Joe Fortunato (#47).

I included every tweet that mentioned Jordan Love that I found, for those who may be wondering.

TGR, I believe that's JJ Molson #35 on the right.

So it is. The 5 looked like a 6. Pretty sure the photo caption I had said it was Molson but I looked, thought I saw 36, checked packerscom and wrote Vernon Scott.

You'd think I'd realize it was not Vernon Scott - either that or the guy in the picture lost all of his tan!

So I am going to a practice next week (if work cooperates). Given the apparent quality of my eyesight, I probably should take binoculars and then just rely on the media tweets anyway!

No objections from here TGR. Thank you for your good job. When day is low, there is low in reports. You can do better than that.

Kepp up good work. At list myself is thankful for that.

"Dennis Kelly says Titans knew exactly what to do against the Packers’ defense last season. "

Well that doesn't make anybody special...

"(and just about everyone else in the league)"

That should be "(and just about everyone else not named Jaire Alexander in the league)"

TGR, Thanks for the tweet updates. Since I don't use social media (outside of CHTV, lol) I really appreciate that you've been doing this for us all.

Padded practices can begin next week. Things should start to get more informative. It would be good to get some of the NFI guys back.
