Dusty Everly wrote about key plays in the passing game last year, and week after week it showed some clutch catches made by our WRs, and I’d really be interested in him breaking down Lazard and MVS. Although The Drunk At The End Of The Bar (TDATEOTB) and a few misguided nitwits insist that Lazard isn’t really a legit #2, the data and the film contradict that pretty conclusively.
Only eight rookie WRs caught more balls than Lazard last season, and all of them had many more targets. Lazard was not technically a rookie last year, since he appeared in one game in 2018, but even if you include second year guys, Lazard is in the top 20 in yards and receptions. In terms of production per target, he’s Top Ten in yards per target and per reception. And of course, since the #2 WR is a blocker on half the plays it should be mentioned that Lazard excels as a blocker. All of this at a bargain rate.
MVS has a low catch percentage, and consequently fewer targets, but is right behind Lazard in yards. In terms of yards per reception, he’s #3 if you exclude the people with 10 or fewer catches. So CLEARLY, the Packers have two of the more productive—-and promising young receivers in the league. Add in St Brown and that’s a pretty decent group.
In fact, there are only 40 WRs on their rookie deals who had at least 400 yards in receptions and we have two of them. Both of them compare well with the #2/3 WRs on quite a few teams.
How a Packer fan can look at these guys and smear crap on them......I don’t understand.
Is it even possible for you to make a point without calling people names?
You seem like a lonely, bitter, hateful old man. I almost feel sorry for you.
Please enlighten me when I bad mouthed the team. I'll wait. I've done nothing but praised Lazard.
But of course I'll get no response to that either.
You're a fuc*ing idiot.
Ok, I agree this has gone on long enough. Obviously, I'm not coming down to Texas, nor are you coming up to WI. Not to mention, we're both past the age of settling this physically. But no man appreciates being called a princess.
I'm happy with a truce as long as you quit calling people names whenever they disagree with you. And stopping with the "I'm always the smartest guy in the room, and anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot or a drunk" routine wouldn't hurt either.
As I've said before, this is a forum for folks to voice their opinions on what's going on with our team. This may come as a shock to you, but people don't really appreciate when their opinions are dismissed as uninformed and stupid. Your opinions have no more validity as anyone else in here.
I will ignore you, you will ignore me. You will not set conditions on what I say, or how I say it, unless you are willing to allow me to set conditions on you.
Fair enough. What conditions?
But I do have a question. Why the need to call people names when they disagree with you? That's the main thing that triggered this whole back and forth for me.
Thank you for letting me know what triggered you. From my perspective, it started with you and the drunk at the end of the bar unfairly maligning players on our team.
If somebody is going to ignorantly insinuate that they're better judges of talent than the pros who run the team, I'm going to call them on it. Nicely, at first, but not so nicely if they persist.
Not being able to articulate oneself without resorting to name calling shows a lack of control and maturity. Some would even say intelligence.
I don't know what players I've negatively judged, other than questioning MVS's development, while at the same time hoping he eventually becomes a regular contributor. Right or wrong, why that justifies being called derogatory names escapes me. Maybe they do things different in Texas.
Leather change your name to Nostradamus, and give me the powerball numbers since you know everything.. Both you guys check to see if your ” get off my lawn” signs are still up and shiny..
P.S I have drinks and watch football, annnddd sometimes it’s even at a bar.. Ohhhh no, I’m must be borderline R TARDED..
I nearly lost my sanity when Lazard was released and Shepperd was kept on the 53...... I really believed Lazard would be claimed off waivers........Gute is very lucky........nearly a monumental eff up.........
From the first special team play in the 1st pre-season game when Lazard single handedly destroyed the whole right hand side of opponents blocking scheme I was this guy is a must keeper.
I would like to see Sheppard turn out and be a player but never understood the love he received here at CHTV over Lazard. Lazard and ESB are damn good WR's and Special Teamers. Their down field blocking is under appreciated!
MVS is terrible and may not have a roster spot. He lucked out that Funchess opted out for the season. That might save his roster spot. MVS has no WR Skills. He's fast in a straight line but changes directions poorly and has poor ball skills. Working w/ Randy Moss hasn't even helped him!
Lazard has some WR talent but not starting WR talent. Being in the 20's in rookie and 2nd year WR is not worth writing home about. He belongs on a roster but has no business starting. He would absolutely NOT be a a starting WR on any other NFL team. Rodgers has to drop dimes to get him the ball most of the time.
By your own numbers 40 WR on rookie contracts, now add another 40 to 60 WR not on rookie contacts and you get a better representation of where Lazard fits on a dept chart. Low end #3, or ideally a #4.
St Brown is basically the same as Lazard. They should be in competition for a #3 or 4 depth chart. Sorry you don't like the facts!
MVS caught more passes for more yards his first two seasons than Davante Adams or Jordy Nelson.
Young players often improve with coaching. He’s had some bad drops but if he can get past that he’ll be a significant asset. He’s not terrible. Of all WRs with two or fewer years in the league, he’s better than most.
Did you notice who Jordy was behind as a rookie? James Jones, Driver, Jennings and they had Finley as well. So hardly a fair comparison. Adams was behind Jordy and Cobb. MVS is terrible. He has virtually no WR Skills. Poor routes, no elusiveness to create separation, and sub par ball skills!
He's been in the NFL for 2 yrs now and hasn't improved, in fact he's regressed. Get your head outta your AZ. He's not an NFL WR!
Minus the 40-60 high dollar vets, and minus the 20 guys on rookie contracts who have been better by a little or a lot, that still puts both Lazard and MVS at no worse than about 80th.
Then you factor in that in our offense the #2 WR is a blocker on half the plays and that certainly moves Lazard up the list a little.
You MUST have some minimum wage rookie contract guys in your lineup. Where do you want them? Protecting Rodgers? In the secondary?
Gutekunst and Lefleur are using big, cheap, guys at the #2-3-4 receiver spots. They block and get a couple of touches a game. This is part of the plan and it won14 games last year.
It is entirely possible that Lazard, MSV, and St. Brown will all be more productive than last year, and it's a virtual certainty that as a group they'll be better than last year.
Look at their skills! Lazard has some but not enough to start. MVS can't create separation, Doesn't have a clue how to run routes. Sub par ball skills. Hell he doesn't really even know how or when to use his speed to get the most benefit out of it. No faith in MVS whatsoever. Low amount in Lazard and only slightly better in EQ! None of them are going to do a thing to keep double coverage off Adams. No DC is going to bother wasting time game planning for them. Its dellusional to put any faith in any of them, besides getting nominal production!
Ok Stroh, the Packer personnel people, including the GM, obviously disagree with your assessment, but if you want to pretend that you are more astute than they are, be my guest. I hope it’s OK if I don’t share your delusion.
They were scouted , drafted, signed to a contract and are still on the team. Lazard is the projected starter. We haven’t drafted a WR nor pursued any high dollar FAs. This doesn’t tell you that the Packer brass likes these guys?
I would even say that Lane Taylor's performance over time (he has started 49 games in his career and was a preferred starter at G all the way up 'til he got hurt in 2019) puts him ahead of Lazard.
Lazard is an easy person to root for. He seems to fit our image of "Packer people". I would love nothing more than for him or ANY in this WR group to take off playing opposite Adams. Improvement for this Packer team in 2020 (assuming games are played) hinges on the young guys on this roster continuing to develop.
Finding a franchise quarterback is messy. But the Packers have separated fact from fiction when it comes to finding franchise quarterbacks. Two other teams in the division are actively looking.
On today's show, Andy is joined by Acme Packing Company's Justis Mosqueda to discuss Josh Jacob's fit within Matt LaFleur's offense, how Green Bay will utilize Xavier McKinney, and just how worried Packers fans should be about the potential of two top rookie quarterbacks entering the division. Don't miss it!

Yes, he was. So was Tramon Williams (by the Texans). Sometimes, a released player comes back with a chip on his shoulder and does better.
As Bure9620 expressed, I was stunned Lazard was let go. The Packers were lucky Lazard wasn't signed somewhere else.
MVS has one asset...speed. Sounds like Jeff Janis. At least, Janis excelled on STs while MVS doesn't contribute much, if anything, on STs.
EQ might be ahead of MVS on the depth chart. With Funchess opting out, Kumerow might be ahead of MVS too.
