Welker Opens Camp on Pup List

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker will begin 2010 training camp on the team's "Active/PUP" list, ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss reports.
Welker was expected to receive medical clearance to return to on-field work when camp begins, but with no reason to rush Welker's recovery from off-season knee surgery, his placement on PUP was an expected transaction.
Teams routinely place players coming off an injury on the "Active/PUP" list at the beginning of training camp, as it enables them to place the player on the six-week/"Reserve/PUP" list at the beginning of the regular season, should the player suffer a setback in his recovery.
Welker still counts towards the 80-man roster limit, and can be removed from the list at any time.
Reiss adds that veteran linebacker Shawn Crable and seventh-round defensive lineman Kade Weston were also placed on "Active/PUP" today.
