The Minnesota Vikings will sign quarterback Rhett Bomar off the New York Giants’ practice squad, Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger reports.
A fifth-round pick (151st overall) in 2009 out of Sam Houston State, Bomar (6-2, 225) has spent much of the past two seasons on the Giants’ practice squad.
Bomar has been earning a $127,500 salary on the Giants’ practice squad, $2,300 per week more than the $5,200/week minimum.
In six games over the last two pre-seasons, Bomar has completed 44-of-86 pass attempts for 606 yards, with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Bomar has also gained 78 yards on 11 rushing attempts.
The Vikings have not announced the move, which has been confirmed by Giants head coach Tom Coughlin.
