During his pro day workout last week, former BYU running back and Supplmental draft prospect Harvey Unga measured in at 6-1 and 244 pounds. Unga, who is coming off a sprained ankle, ran the 40-yard dash in over 4.6 seconds, prompting some speculation that the big back with the sure hands could move to fullback in the NFL.
"Most of them have been telling me I'm going to be playing running back," Unga told Brian Stull of 101 ESPN in St. Louis.
"I can be the third-down back--and that can 3rd and short or 3rd and long, they think it'd be great to have a big guy like me even on a 3rd and long play where if they need to throw me the ball they know I'll catch it and make the best of it. There's a lot of different things I believe teams will be able to use me for."
The 2010 NFL Supplemental draft will be held via e-mail on Thursday. It's expected that one of the 20 NFL teams to send a representative to his workout will use a mid-to-late round pick on Unga, who set the BYU record with 3,455 rushing yards. Unga also scored 36 rushing touchdowns, and added 102 receptions for 1,085 yards and 9 touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield.
Unga is letting his agent, Eric Metz, do the talking with NFL, but tells Stull that the Rams, Buccaneers, Dolphins, and Seahawks have made contact.
