UNC DT Marvin Austin May Lose Eligibility

University of North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin may be suspended for his entire senior season.

The National Football Post reports that University of North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin may be suspended for his entire senior season.

Austin, a pre-season first-team All-American according to Phil Steele's 2010 preview mag, is currently under investigation by the NCAA for violating rules regarding gifts from an agent, or an individual(s) acting on the agent's behalf.

"The next time we will see Marvin Austin is at the NFL scouting combine," the NFP's source says.

The investigation reportedly began after Austin tweeted about being in South Beach, which prompted the NCAA to investigate who paid for Austin's airfare and hotel accommodations. Austin was also seen driving an SUV owned by former North Carolina defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer, a 2008 first-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers.

Austin reportedly stayed at Balmer's Chapel Hill apartment, as well.

South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders, a close friend of Austin's, is also under investigation. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that two certified NFLPA agents are under investigation.
