Singletary Contemplated QB Change

At some point during last night's 34-7 loss to the San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary contemplated making another quarterback change.

"I thought about it, but I think it would've been unfair to Troy (Smith) at this time to try to go back to him, meaning Alex (Smith) has been taking all the snaps," Singletary said last night. "It is a different thing going from Troy to Alex. I think it is a horrific thing to go from Alex to Troy."

Four days after posting a 130.9 passer rating, his best game since entering the NFL as the first overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, Alex Smith completed 19-of-29 pass attempts for 165 yards and an interception, which came on a fourth-and-long play in the fourth quarter, compiling a passer rating of 66.0.

Singletary is undecided on who his starting quarterback will be ten days from now when the 49ers visit the St. Louis Rams. The 49ers could be eliminated from playoff contention if the Rams or the Seattle Seahawks win their games this Sunday.
