Singletary Close to Deal With Vikings

Mike Singletary is close to a deal to become the linebackers coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Singletary is also drawing interest from the Carolina Panthers, but is a former teammate and roommate of Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier.

A Hall of Fame linebacker, Singletary began his NFL coaching career in 2003, coaching the Baltimore Ravens linebackers for two seasons before following Mike Nolan to the San Francisco 49ers, where he added an assistant head coach title to his role as linebackers coach.

Singletary replaced Nolan as head coach during the 2008 season, but was fired in December after posting 5-10 record in 2010.
