The Seattle Seahawks announced the signing of sixth-round tight end Anthony McCoy.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McCoy, who played for Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, was the 185th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft after catching 46 passes for 457 yards and three touchdowns during his four years at USC. McCoy played behind Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis his first two seasons with the Trojans, entering the starting lineup during the 2008 season.

McCoy’s athleticism had many projecting him to on the second day of the three-day draft. McCoy was ruled academically-ineligible for the Emerald Bowl, and tested positive for marijuana, which clearly impacted his draft stock.

The 6-5, 255-pound McCoy is expected to compete with 2009 seventh-round pick Cameron Morrah for Seattle's third tight end spot, behind starter John Carlson and free agent signee Chris Baker. McCoy's size and blocking ability may give him an advantage in that competition.

McCoy is the first of the Seahawks' nine picks in the 2010 NFL Draft to sign a contract, and the 16th pick to sign or agree to terms.
