Seahawks Pro Scout Reportedy Approached Inglis' Manager

It's only been a few weeks since Australian rugby star Greg Inglis has been linked to a few NFL teams, but Greg Inglis Fatigue has already begun to set in:

"Frankly, we're starting to think that all this talk of NFL teams being interested in Inglis could be coming from Inglis or someone representing him, in the hopes of leveraging his rugby club into doing whatever Inglis and/or the persons representing him what the rugby club to currently do", Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com wrote on Sunday.

Frankly, Florio's right. Talk of Inglis coming to America to play in the NFL has come, primarily if not entirely, from Al Gainey, Inglis' manager, and that should send up a red flag with "BS" emblazoned on it, especially since it's debatable Inglis knows whether or not an NFL football is inflated or stuffed. Inglis would be nothing more than a long-shot developmental prospect, and as one of the top rugby players in the world, Inglis' best bet, financially, is to remain in that sport.

But Gainey can, and should, use other sports, including the best sports league in the world, to gain leverage for his client.

Gainey's true motivation, and the likelihood that any NFL interest is more curiosity than anything else, does not mean the NFL interest in Inglis is not legitimate.

"I've got a long list of people, 10 NRL clubs, about 3 French rugby union clubs, the Seattle Seahawks and an expression of interest from Essendon," Gainey said this morning on SEN radio, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

"There's been plenty coming to kick my tyres."

The Morning Herald identifies one of the tire-kickers as Seattle Seahawks pro scout Dale Thompson.

Sure, Gainey could have visited www.seahawks.com, found the scouting department and dropped Thompson's name to the Australian media. But it's possible that there are NFL teams legitimately interested in Inglis, which would be more than enough to prompt other NFL teams to want to draft their own scouting report on the 23-year old.

Even if nothing ever comes from it.
