The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran free agent Terrence Metcalf to a one-year deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A third-round pick (93rd overall) out of Mississippi by the Chicago Bears in 2003, the 6-4, 310-pound Metcalf started 25 of 84 games for the Bears between 2003 and 2008. Metcalf signed with the Detroit Lions in 2009, but was cut before the end of training camp.

Undrafted rookie guard Joe Tonga was waived to make room for Metcalf on the team's 80-man off-season roster.
