Saints, Jets to Add Veteran Quarterbacks

Free agent quarterbacks Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell, teammates with the Washington Redskins, have "handshake agreements" to join the New Orleans Saints (Ramsey) and New York Jets (Brunell), Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com reports.

Terms of the deals, which are expected to be executed on or around June 15, were not disclosed.

Ramsey, a 2001 first-round pick by the Washington Redskins, was signed by the Tennessee Titans last April, but was released four weeks into the 2009 season. Ramsey finished last season with the Detroit Lions, and has also had stints with the New York Jets (2006-07) and Denver Broncos (2007-08). Ramsey has completed 56% of his 913 pass attempts for 5,930 yards, with 35 touchdowns and 30 interceptions for a career passer rating of 74.9.

Ramsey last started an NFL game in 2005.

Brunell, who turns 40 in September, has spent the last two seasons with the Saints, serving as Drew Brees' top backup. In 18 games, including a start in 2009's regular season finale, Brunell completed 15-of-30 passes for 102 yards and an interception.

A fifth-round (118th overall) pick out of the University of Washington by the Green Bay Packers in 1993, Brunell spent nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Redskins in 2004. Brunell is a 59.5% passer, with 31,928 yards, 182 touchdowns, 107 interceptions, and a career passer rating of 83.9, but has only attempted 30 passes since 2006.
