Though it was not reported by any news outlet, the rumors of New Orleans Saints departing the franchise to become general manager of the Dallas Cowboys prompted the Saints to issue a statement.
"Sean Payton is the coach of the New Orleans Saints. He will not be going to the Dallas Cowboys in any capacity," Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said in a statement posted by WDSU in New Orleans.
Payton spent three seasons with the Cowboys before becoming the Saints head coach in 2006. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com writes that reports that Payton is is building a home in the Dallas area may be true.
Despite that, and the acknowledgment of this rumor by the Saints' public relations department, it's silly to suggest that Payton would leave the head coaching ranks to become general manager of a franchise whose owner, Jerry Jones, handles those duties.
And shows zero signs of ever letting them go.
