Packers Sign Three 2010 Draft Picks

??The Green Bay Packers announced that they have signed three members of their seven-player 2010 draft class.
Signed on Wednesday were fifth-round (159th overall) offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse, sixth-round (193rd overall) running back James Starks, and seventh-round (230th overall) defensive end C.J. Wilson.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
A three-year starter at left tackle for TCU, Newhouse earned all-Mountain West Conference honors in each of the last three years, including first-team honors after a senior season where Newhouse earned All-American honors from several publications.
Newhouse has drawn comparisons to New Orleans Saints All-Pro guard Jahri Evans, and a move inside is a distinct possibility for the 6-4, 319-pound mauler. The Packers have been using Newhouse at right guard on their second-team line during their off-season workouts.
An All-MAC performer in each of his three seasons at the University of Buffalo, Starks (6-2, 218) missed the 2009 season with a shoulder injury. Starks gained 3,140 yards rushing during his career, with 34 touchdowns on the ground. Starks also caught 105 passes for 706 yards and 3 touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield.
Starks ran a 4.5-40 at the Combine, and displayed a 36” vertical leap and 9’11” broad jump, which suggests that Starks could be used as an offensive weapon all over the field. Staying healthy will be an issue for the 24-year old rookie, who has already been sidelined by a hamstring injury during the OTAs.
A four-year starter at East Carolina, the 6-3, 290-pound Wilson tallied 192 tackles, including 45.5 for a loss and 27 quarterback sacks during his college career. Wilson earned second-team All-Conference USA honors as a sophomore, and was first-time all-conference after his junior and senior seasons, as well.
Wilson was named Conference USA Defensive MVP after last season.
Though he lacks prototypical height, Wilson’s speed (4.83-40), strength (32 reps on the bench press), athleticism (33” vertical leap, 9’08” broad jump) make him a quality “5” technique end for the Packers to develop, and a potential seventh-round steal for Packers’ GM Ted Thompson
