No Extension for Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley

Outside linebacker enters the final year of his contract.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will not sign linebacker LaMarr Woodley to a contract extension before the start of the 2010 season, James Walker of ESPN.com reports.

Woodley, a second-round pick (46th overall) out of Michigan in 2007, is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which will pay him a $550,000 base salary in 2010. As a second-round pick, Woodley did not receive fourth-year escalators in his rookie contract that draft picks in other rounds routinely receive.

In 44 games, and 31 starts, over the last three seasons, Woodley has 136 tackles and 29 quarterback sacks, including 25 over the last two seasons. Woodley has added 3 forced fumbles, an interception and seven passes defensed during his short career.

Woodley's coming out party nationally was the six quarterback sacks he posted during the Steelers' 2008 playoff run. Woodley had two sacks in each of the team's three playoff games, including a sack and forced fumble of Kurt Warner that clinched Pittsburgh's Super Bowl XLIII win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Woodley was a second-team All-Pro and made his first to the Pro Bowl following a 2009 season where he set a career-high with 13.5 quarterback sacks.
