Mike Shula to Take Panthers' Job

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach Mike Shula has accepted the same position with the Carolina Panthers, reports Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union.

The son of Hall of Fame head coach Don Shula, Mike Shula has coached the Jaguars quarterbacks the last four seasons, joining the club after spending four seasons as the head coach at the University of Alabama.

Shula previously coached quarterbacks with the Miami Dolphins from 2000-02, and coordinated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense from 1996-99.

Shula replaces Rip Scherer, who coached the Panthers quarterbacks under former head coach John Fox. Scherer recently accepted the quarterbacks coach position at the University of Colorado.

Ganguli adds that the Jaguars will promote receivers coach Todd Monken to quarterbacks coach.
