Lions Waive WR Marko Mitchell

The Detroit Lions have waived wide receiver Marko Mitchell, John Niyo of the Detroit News reports.

Mitchell had been acquired off waivers from the Washington Redskins on May 5.

The 6-4, 218-pound Mitchell was drafted by the Redskins in the seventh-round (243rd) of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Nevada. Mitchell led the Redskins in receiving during last year's pre-season, catching 11 passes for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns, earning a spot on the team's 53-man roster.

In 10 games last season, Mitchell caught 4 passes for 32 yards and recorded one tackle on special teams.

In addition to the Lions, the Minnesota Vikings placed a waiver claim on Mitchell last month, and could do so again this time around. The Seattle Seahawks, who have been on the lookout for tall, physical receivers, have an open roster spot and could be in the mix, as well.

Seattle sits in the sixth position on waiver claims, while the Vikings are 30th.
