Lions GM Expects Suh To Be On Time For Training Camp

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew doesn't foresee a holdout from second overall pick Ndamukong Suh, but stressed the importance of Suh being signed in time for training camp.

"I don't think it's going to be a big issue," Mayhew said, according to Tom Kowalski of MLive.com. "I know his agents very well, they're very accomplished guys. Rosie (Roosevelt Barnes) played here and I go back with Eugene (Parker), he was Deion (Sanders') agent so I know him really well. The big thing is that Ndamukong knows it's his decision and he's expressed that to us and he's expressed his desire to be in camp on time. (Lions president) Tom (Lewand) and Rosie have been talking and I think things are going in the right direction.

"It's critically important -- for every rookie to start, from day one, to be here. We expect him to be here and I think he expects to be here. It's early in the process but, right now, I feel good about it."

Parker told the Omaha World-Herald last month that the two sides have communicated.

"Typically what happens is when there's a sense of urgency by both parties, things get done," Parker said last month. "We've had conversations. It would be safe to say the parties are communicating. We have had and we are having communications."
