Jim Mora Not Joining FOX Crew in St. Louis
By admin
FOX analyst Jim Mora will not be joining his regular crew for this Sunday's Carolina Panthers-St. Louis Rams game, Howard Balzer of The SportsXchange notes.
"Jim Mora not on broadcast with Stockton and Davis this week. Maybe they got tired of him second-guessing every coaching decision," Balzer tweeted.
Mora collected $12 million owed to him after the Seattle Seahawks fired him after one season, so it's not as though he needs the weekly paycheck from FOX. He also has a young family at home, and may be taking a week off during his first playing and coaching-free Fall in a long time to spend time with them.
Still, FOX is carrying six games this week, making it noteworthy that Mora won't be accompanying his regular crew (Dick Stockton, Charles Davis), which ranks third among FOX's seven broadcast crews.
Mora doesn't always have full control of what he says, but his experience as an NFL head coach, as well as his role on the NFL Network's "The Coaches Show", is why FOX hired and teamed him with an experienced play-by-play man and color analyst for a three-man booth.
Providing commentary and analysis from a coach's point of view is why Jim Mora is there. Removing him from the broadcasts for overly second-guessing head coaches would be like turning off Tony Siragusa's mic for talking about the play in the trenches, or Troy Aikman's for talking about quarterbacks.
