Former University of South Florida head coach Jim Leavitt has agreed to a contract to become the linebackers coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times.
The 57-year old Leavitt was the USF head coach for 13 seasons, leading the former 1-AA program to a 95-57 record and as high as a #2-ranking in the national polls in 2007. Leavitt was fired last January after being accused of grabbing a player by the throat and hitting him in the face.
Last week, the school and Leavitt reached a $2.75 million settlement to resolve a wrongful termination suit.
