Jets Sign 5th Round FB John Conner

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the New York Jets have signed fifth-round fullback John Conner.

Mehta reports the deal is for four years, and included a $199,000 signing bonus, creating a base value of $1.989 million dollars. The contract's maximum value is $2.73 million dollars.

One of the top pure fullbacks available in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Jets chose Conner with the 139th overall pick, a selection acquired from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for running back Leon Washington and a 2010 seventh-round pick, which was used on defensive end/linebacker Dexter Davis.

In 52 career games at the University of Kentucky, Conner carried the ball 54 times for 247 yards and four touchdowns, including a career-high 31 times for 158 yards in 2009. Conner also added 25 receptions for 193 yards and four touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield.

By being selected by the Jets, Conner has the opportunity to learn his trade under Tony Richardson, one of the finest fullbacks the NFL has seen in the last 15 years.

Conner is the first of the Jets' four 2010 draft picks to sign a contract.
