Giants to Sign DB Will Blackmon

Free agent defensive back Will Blackmon will sign with the New York Giants today, his agent, Paul Lawrence, announced on Twitter.

Terms were not disclosed and the Giants will need to make a corresponding move to add Blackmon to the 53-man roster.

A fourth-round pick (115th overall) out of Boston College in 2006, injuries have limited to Blackmon to just 32 games in his career, during which he's made 41 tackles and defended one pass. Blackmon's primary value is on special teams, where he's averaged 21.1 yards per kick return, and has an 11-yard average on 47 punt returns, three of which he's returned for touchdowns.

Blackmon also led the Packers with 16 special teams tackles and three fumble recoveries in 2008.

The Packers tendered Blackmon, a restricted free agent this off-season, at the "Original Round" level. Blackmon injured his knee, and was released with an injury settlement on September 5.
