Giants Claim WR Devin Thomas Off Waivers

The New York Giants announced that they have been awarded wide receiver Devin Thomas off waivers from the Carolina Panthers.

Fullback Madison Hedgecock was placed on injured reserve to add Thomas to the 53-man roster.

Originally selected out of Michigan State by the Washington Redskins with the 34th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, Thomas was waived by the Panthers on Tuesday.

Thomas (6-2, 215) had just 40 receptions for 445 yards and 3 touchdowns in 35 career games. All of his production has come with the Redskins, who placed him on waivers on October 9. Thomas was active for one game with the Panthers, last Sunday's 37-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but did not catch a pass. Thomas did return three kicks for 63 yards, with a long of 26.

The Giants also announced that they have re-signed tight end Jake Ballard to their practice squad.
