I realize that, for a blog that's supposed to cover the other 31 teams, I've been silent on the subject of the labor negotiations, the CBA, the implications of an un-capped 2010, and the current draft projections for Jacksonville. Free Agency starts this Friday, and I haven't said a word. And you know what? You're welcome.

Frankly, you don't want to hear from me about these things. First, Aaron has a better handle on this than I ever will. Second, I'd only be spitting back what I hear from @caplannfl, @doug_farrar, @SalaryCap101, @GAtallah (even @Adam_Schefter), and that's boring.  Third, I recognize that this is where folks get down to brass tacks, and where the league actually lives or dies, but I hate this time in football.

See, I overreact waaaay too much.  There's been much talk about how Aaron Kampman has likely played his last game in green and gold. Alex Brown wants nothing more than to see Kamp as the other bookend to the Bears D line. Meanwhile, we've heard that Chicago's other top FA prospect is none other than Julius Peppers. Today, I hear that S Antrel Rolle might be headed to join the party.

All these rumors, and my brain starts going haywire. Chicago has no draft, after all, having traded the moon (#11) away for Jay Cutler, and the stars (#42) for the now-departed Gaines Adams. They don't pick until #75 (for the 1st of 5 remaining picks), so it's logical that they'll try to fill gaps in free agency.  With no cap and Jerry Angelo & Co. in a make-or-break year, I go a little nuts. "Would they actually spend that much? Would Kamp betray the Packers like that? Gosh, that line would be tough. And with a healthy LB corps, I don't like this. And then, Darren Sproles? Kevin Walter? Brian Westbrook? OMG WE HAVE TO STOP CHICAGO." I start worrying that we'll be #3 in the division by default, that every FA the Packers might target (and all of our own) will find themselves on the opposing sideline, and that we'll be starting Allen Barbre at RT. Again.

I realize they're crazy thoughts, that some of these events will not take place. But these are the things that get stuck in my head during this part of the offseason.  I'm sorry I haven't come up with anything insightful to post here, but it's best for all involved that I don't share my irrational overreactions with you.  Comes time for the post-draft camps, I'll have opinions. Until then, I'll be in the corner, cowering.
