Favre Says He's Not Coming Back in 2011

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre says he is not returning for the 2011 season.

Favre made the disclosure during an interview with Steve Mariucci, his former quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers, for the NFL Network that will air on this Sunday's "GameDay Morning".

The NFL Network aired a portion of the interview during last night's broadcast of the Baltimore Ravens-Atlanta Falcons game.

"No," Favre said, after brief pause, when asked if he was planning to return for the 2011 season.

In 2009, Favre returned from his second retirement to have one of the finest seasons of his Hall of Fame career, passing for 4,202 yards with 33 touchdowns and a career-low 7 interceptions, resulting in a career-best 107.2 passer rating.

The 41-year old Favre has struggled with ankle and calf injuries this season, and leaving the Vikings' Week 9 loss to the New England Patriots with a chin laceration. Favre has also made headlines for allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to Jenn Sterger, a former New York Jets sideline reporter, in 2008. The allegations have prompted an investigation by NFL security, the result of which could lead to Favre being disciplined under the league's personal conduct policy.

Age, injuries (to himself and to Sidney Rice), and perhaps off-field distractions have hurt Favre's production, with Favre throwing a league-high 13 interceptions already this season.

Favre is making nearly $20 million in total compensation, and an additional $8 million owed to him from last season, and will be a free agent after this season.
