Atlanta Falcons running back Jerious Norwood has a torn ACL and will be placed on injured reserve, reports Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.
Norwood was injured returning the opening kick of the Falcons’ 41-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
A third-round pick (79th overall) out of Mississippi State in 2006, Norwood has 1,995 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground, and 96 receptions for 912 yards and 3 touchdowns as a receiver during his 57-game career.
Norwood has also averaged 25.5 yards on 121 kick returns.
Norwood was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this off-season, but due to the rules in the uncapped year, the Falcons were able to keep him with a “Second Round” tender, which is paying him a $1.759 million base salary this season.
