Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid confirmed on Monday that rookie safety Nate Allen ruptured his patellar tendon in Sunday’s win over the New York Giants.
Allen will undergo surgery on Tuesday, Reid added.
Chosen with the 37th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, Allen earned Defensive Rookie of the Month honors in September after posting 11 tackles, 1 quarterback sack, and a pair of interceptions in his first three NFL games.
A starter in all 13 of the games he was active this season, the 6-1, 210-pounder from South Florida has 48 tackles, 2 quarterback sacks, 3 interceptions, and 8 passes defensed this season.
