Eagles Reach 4-Yr Deal With 5th Round WR Riley Cooper

Former Florida Gators product ready to sign contract with Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Eagles have reached agreement on a four-year deal with fifth-round wide receiver Riley Cooper.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A two-year starter at the University of Florida, Cooper (6-3, 222) emerged as one of Tim Tebow’s favorite targets in 2009, catching 51 receptions for a team-high 961 yards and 9 touchdowns. Overall, Cooper caught 81 passes for 1,496 yards and 18 touchdowns in his 51-game career for the Gators.

Cooper has strong hands and good body control, using his size to his advantage when faced with tight coverage or jump-ball situations. Cooper emerged as a red-zone threat early in his college career, catching three touchdown passes in a game against Western Carolina in a freshman season where he caught only 4 passes.

Cooper is expected to contend for a backup receiver role, though he was slowed by a hamstring injury during the OTAs.

Cooper's signing leaves first-round defensive end Brandon Graham and second-round safety Nate Allen as the Eagles' lone unsigned picks from the 2010 NFL Draft.
