Chargers Waive S Kevin Ellison

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that the San Diego Chargers have waived second-year safety Kevin Ellison.
Ellison was arrested in Redondo Beach, California on May 24 for possession of a controlled substance. Ellison had been pulled over for speeding, and during a search of his vehicle, police officers discovered 100 Vicodin tablets, for which Ellison lacked a prescription.
Ellison's attorney told the San Diego Union-Tribune that Ellison had that many pain-killers because he didn't want to run out during the upcoming season, and that the pills were because of a knee surgery. Ellison underwent three knee surgeries during his career at the University of Southern California, but did not have any surgical procedures this off-season, and as an active participant in the team's off-season workouts, was presumably healthy.
In the wake of his arrest, the Chargers asked Ellison to stay away from their late May mini-camp.
A sixth-round pick (189th overall) in 2009, presumably because of his multiple knee surgeries, Ellison started 9 of 13 regular season games as a rookie, totaling 52 tackles, including three for a loss, and a quarterback sack. Ellison started the Chargers' 17-14 playoff loss to the New York Jets, making one tackle.
