Cardinals Waive RB Alfonso Smith

The Arizona Cardinals have placed rookie running back Alfonso Smith on waivers, a league source confirmed on Tuesday.

Knowing they'd be without LaRod Stephens-Howling (hamstring) and Jason Wright (concussion) for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Smith (6-0, 208) was signed off the Cardinals' practice squad on Saturday.

Smith was active, and played roles on special teams during the 31-13 loss. If he clears waivers today, he may be re-signed to the Cardinals' practice squad.

The Cardinals are also expected to place outside linebacker Will Davis (fibula) on injured reserve, which creates two open roster spots. One is expected to be used on rookie wide receiver Max Komar, who was waived when Smith was elevated to the 53-man roster.
