Browns Sign 5th Round S Larry Asante

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers product inks four-year deal with Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns have signed fifth-round safety Larry Asante to a four-year contract, Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com reports.

Caplan reports the deal is worth $1.96 million dollars.

A three-year starter at Nebraska, the hard-hitting Asante (6-0, 212) totaled 224 tackles, 3 interceptions, 15 pass break-ups, and three forced fumble from his strong safety position. A converted linebacker, the self-proclaimed “The Assassin” earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2007 and 2008 before earning first-team honors as a senior.

Asante is expected to play behind 2010 second-round pick T.J. Ward at strong safety, and will be a core member of the Browns’ kick and punt coverage units.
