Bills TE Shawn Nelson Suspended 4 Games

Buffalo Bills tight end Shawn Nelson has been suspended four games by the National Football League for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Nelson's suspension will commence on September 4, and he will not be allow at the Bills' facilities until October 4. Nelson will miss games against the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and New York Jets.

A fourth-round pick (121st overall) out of Southern Mississippi in 2009, the 6-5, 240-pound Nelson started all 12 games he was active during his rookie season, catching 17 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. Nelson was expected to have an increased role in the offense in 2010, but has been working behind Jonathan Stupar and Michael Matthews during training camp.

Nelson's suspension will cost him $92,941 in base salary.
