6-Years, $60M for D'Brickashaw Ferguson

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that New York Jets left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson's agreed to contract extension is worth $60 million dollars in new money.

$34.8 million dollars of the deal is guaranteed, and including the two seasons remaining on Ferguson's contract, the total 8-year package is worth $73.6225 million dollars, or $9.2M annually.

Ferguson is now under contract through 2017, and while the $60M in "new money", Ferguson's annual per year is not a record-breaker for offensive tackles, the $34.8 million in guaranteed money is a pace-setter.

Here's a look at the other top offensive tackle contracts:

Jason Peters, Philadelphia - 6-years, $60M ($24.4M guaranteed)
Jason Smith, St. Louis - 5-years, $54M ($33M guaranteed)
Jake Long, Miami - 5-years, $50M ($30M guaranteed)
Jordan Gross, Carolina - 6-years, $56.4M ($24.5M guaranteed)

Notice that two of the four contracts above are rookie contracts. This should be a clear sign to veterans that those "crazy" contracts at the top of each year's draft go a long ways towards rewarding veterans who have "earned it" on the field.
