If you cannot get a brat at a local meat market, get Johnsonville.  The true Wisconsin brat.  However, they do not have a decent Portugese or Chirizo.

Man I love Johnsonville brats. They are just so damn hard to get out here in NY. None of my local places ever have them. But on the rare occasion that they do, I buy as many as I can... Wink

So far I would rate..

1. Unknown Sturgeon bay Co. - (Ryan may know)

2. Usinger

3. Sheboygan brand- Miesfields (Thanks PackCheesiestInNJ) Cheesy

4. Johnsonville

I think the more obscure WI brands are better than Johnsonville

I am a Sheboyganite and I think Miesfield's has the best brat. Johnsonville is the best known brat maker, therefore has more people aware of them. Sheboygan is the Brat Capital of the US, and ESPN had their annual Brat Eating Contest on live last year. I now reside in NJ, so am not sure if it will be on tv again this year. Brat Days is held in the beginning of August. Packeraaron, I was amazed at the availability of Johnsonville Brats here in south Jersey! Last summer, my local meat market had the 5 brat pkg's for $0.99!!!!  I bought a dozen pkg's so not to look like a glutton, and went in line behind a gentleman with a cartfull!!! (I did go back the next day and bought the last 6 pkg's.) My saddest thing is that there are no Sheboygan Hard rolls to eat them on! Nothing compares!!!

At the Hilbert Fireman's picnic on the Fourth of July, I had a great brat made by the Hilber Lions from Roehrborn.  It doesn't get much better than a Brillion brat.  If you ever have a chance to have one their weiners, I recommend it.
