1  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: Is Thompson front and center now on: August 07, 2008, 05:17:19 PM
Sad that after all the bullshit Farve leaks to the press, the reinstatement, the refusal to talk to any teams, all of it....Farve comes to town on Family night etc....

After all of that he ends up doing what the Packers tried to get him to do WEEKS ago before he drug himself and the organization through this...he submits and finally talks to the Jets and Buccs (the only two teams even slightly interested out side of our division) and gets traded to the Jets....

This could have been done weeks ago and saved both sides tons of embarrassment.
2  Green Bay Packers / Brett and the Jets / Re: Favre is a J E T on: August 07, 2008, 05:13:32 PM
Yeah...just think what Lombardi would have done to the on again, off again waffling Farve....It never would have come to this...He would have cut him back in 2005, or 6.  Then we could have avoided all this bullshit.
3  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: WHAT THE FANS NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!! on: July 29, 2008, 02:46:43 PM
Well then all the stockholders should sell all the stock in the team and then who would own the team. So why own stock in the team. Does it say you cant be heard on the little piece of paper. Well thats bull crap, and if I owned a share I would really make waves, but as I see nobody cares about what happens in the this world and in the organization. So just sell all your stock and let the board of directors run the team.  Huh?

As with ANY Corporation the stock holders have to voice their opinions to the Board of Directors...they in turn work with the CEO (Murphy) to give direction to the team.  Depending on market and business conditions the Board may or may not decide to listen to the stockholders.  Ultimately if the stockholders don't like the boards performance they can sell their stock or take other actions.

There are differences too in wether you were an original stock holder or one of the ones that purchases stock during the stadium renovation.

However your power is limited somewhat either way.  And these stocks don't pay dividends either.

That was a funny letter.
5  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: If Favre wants to come back - he should be able to on: July 29, 2008, 11:25:24 AM
Unless Farve wants the circus of coming to camp and being the backup he had better give in and give TT some teams he's willing to talk to and start cooperating.

I don't think TT is going to budge on releasing him and if Farve causes problems in the lockerroom I think they'll just suspend him for conduct detrimental to get him out of the lockerroom. (I don't think Farve will make those kind of problems but it could happen)

The thing is what Farve wants they are not going to give him.  I think these are the two options Farve wants:
A. to come back and start for GB...(they aren't going to change directions as TT stated)
B. to get released and ultimately go to MN (can you say dome in the playoffs).  (TT has unequivically stated that we won't release Farve or trade him within the division)

Farve needs to realize that he has 3 options:
A. Report show up and take whatever roll the team is willing to give him and hope that there is an injury so he can start again.
B. Give TT a list of who he would accept trades to and work like hell to get a trade done so he can play next year
C. Appologize for the mess, retire and shut up....(and again hope Rodgers gets hurt so the Pack come to him and he can be the "savior")

Those really are the 3 options that the Packers are willing to live with.  I think they would prefer C then B and then A.  I don't think Farve likes any of those and I think because of that he's dragging his feet.  I also think that the longer Farve waits the less likely it will be that he gets traded anywhere.

Really all Farve can hope for right now is for Phillip Rivers or Tom Brady or Carson Palmer etc...to go down with a season ending injury because suddenly those teams would say...Hey, lets go get Farve!
6  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: WHAT THE FANS NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!! on: July 29, 2008, 10:26:41 AM
Nice sarcasm (I think?) and nice use of that CAPS LOCK......

If your not a stock holder you should see one...that little piece of paper gives you very few "rights" and forcing the team to "take brett back" is certainly not one of them.

You can call the board of directors and voice your opinion but it is up the board of directors to approve the administrators of the Packers...(guys like Murphy)...Murphy then hires TT and TT hires the football staff. After that the decisions are ultimately up to Murphy and Thompson and the board has no control except to fire Murphy and get someone new who would then replace TT (maybe).

I don't think anyone's about to do that.  Its a business fellas and the guys in charge of the business have sat down and made an INFORMED decision, they all have ALL the information about what has gone on between the team and Farve behind the scenes.  They know the locker room.  They know the relationships and they know what is really going on.  With all that information they have made the decision that it is in the best interest of the Packers to move on.

Time may tell if Murphy, TT, McCarthy, Clements and all the other involved staff have made the correct evaluation but even then to us on the outside the picture still may not be clear. There is no way for us to know at this point what adding Farve back to that locker room would do to this team.

7  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: New job for Brett. Aaron's Backup. on: July 25, 2008, 02:41:47 PM
I hope he does come back and compete for the starting job. But like I said before nobody will ever believe that Rodgers out shined Favre for the starting job. Even you people who think he should stay retired. But I think they'll trade him because there is no way in hell that Favre will back up Rodgers knowing he's better than him..

I think your correct.
8  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: What will be Brett's new team? on: July 25, 2008, 02:40:56 PM
Gotta think the league would LOVE it if he was traded to the jets...He would then square off with Brady twice a year.  It could only heighten the intensity of the Jets/Pats rivalry....

The NY Jets have now recieved Permission to talk to Farve according to league sources:

Sources: Favre, Packers weighing possible trade scenarios
ESPN.com news services

The New York Jets have received permission to talk to retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Friday.

The Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have expressed interest in Favre, according to a Packers source. Favre, who retired in April, hasn't made a decision on whether to send in his reinstatement letter. Favre has asked to be released from his contract and is aware of the Jets' and Bucs' interest, the source said. The Packers have no intention of releasing Favre from his contract, which expires after the 2010 season.

Also Friday, a Packers source told Mortensen that Favre informed Packers general manager Ted Thompson by phone on Thursday that he was planning to report to the team's training camp Sunday.

The Packers made phone calls Tuesday to several teams after being encouraged by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to resolve the controversy surrounding Favre before camp opens, according to league and players union sources.

On Wednesday, NFL officials said privately that Favre and the Packers have been talking about which teams he'd be willing to go to in a potential trade, according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

It was the clearest signal yet that the Packers will deal Favre to resolve the current stalemate. Green Bay, which has committed to Aaron Rodgers as its quarterback of the future, wants to keep Favre away from its NFC North rivals -- especially the Minnesota Vikings.

Goodell has been briefed by Thompson on the status of the team's approach with Favre. Goodell has encouraged the Packers to accelerate that process by surveying teams around the league to determine if there is a trade partner, sources said.

Goodell also has spoken with Favre, the sources said, telling the veteran passer that he was willing to assist in the process, if necessary.

Several teams in the AFC and NFC confirmed they have been contacted by the Packers.

On Thursday, at the Packers' annual shareholders meeting, team president and CEO Mark Murphy hinted at the possibility of Favre playing for another team by conjuring the image of Joe Montana in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform.

"We want to have positive feelings about Brett and the Packers, and we want him to continue to be a part of the Packer family," Murphy said. "I think the way this is handled will be important in terms of how that plays out in the future. But I'm also cognizant of some of the things that have happened in the past with Joe Montana ending his career with the Chiefs, now you look back on it, most people might not remember that he played with the Chiefs. They remember he was a 49er."

ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio covers the NFL. ESPN's Chris Mortensen and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
10  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: Packers may postpone Brett's Jersey Retirement on: July 25, 2008, 12:30:28 PM
I personally thought it was stupid of them to do it at the first game anyway.  I think it was just one more way the organization was trying to symbolically show that they were moving to a new era....

11  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: Do the Packers have the goods on Favre? on: July 25, 2008, 12:28:55 PM
I still think your going to see something come down.  If there are multiple calls between Farve and Childress even if its not known what was talked about IMO then there will be some fines/draft picks traded/taken from the Vikes.
12  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: What will be Brett's new team? on: July 18, 2008, 11:25:23 AM
That is a very good question.

Alright...well IMO...you treat them as much like any other player as you possibly can and you do your best to ensure that they fit into the lockerroom and buy into the team concept....

Favre has always been thought of as the consumate teammate...And I think on the field thats true.  I also think back in his "hayday" thats true....but over the last few years Favre has been anything but the consumate team mate off the field.

When TT came in IMO he and MM decided the lockerroom atmosphere had gotten out of control and that the inmates were running the assylum so to speak.  I think every player brought in has first been looked at from the perspective of "how will he fit with this team?" and "how will he affect our lockerroom?".

I think in the end thats why the Moss deal didn't go down.  I think TT wanted Moss...under the correct circumstances...but Moss CHOSE not to come here because in his words:
Quote
“The Packers were really talking about the wrong things, and not the right things. When they started talking about the wrong things, I just hung up the phone and didn’t want to talk to them anymore.

So what were those "wrong things"...well lets look at the full quote:
Quote
“The Packers were really talking about the wrong things, and not the right things. When they started talking about the wrong things, I just hung up the phone and didn’t want to talk to them anymore. I thought at first it was something that could have worked, for the fact that Brett Favre was there, but I think as the conversations occurred throughout the day and the next day, I didn’t really want to go to Green Bay.”

Asked what he meant by the Packers talking about the “wrong things,” Moss said: “They were just talking about their team concept and the wide receivers, and Donald Driver. “It was like they were telling me that they were going to somewhat take a chance on me, but, ‘If you do come here, these are the things you have to watch out for, and be on your best behavior, and Donald Driver is the top receiver here, so don’t come in and try to step on his toes.’"

So those wrong things were simply asking Moss to ensure that when he came in he didn't just run over the other players, that he would be respectful of the current leaders on the team, that he would have to try to fit in to the TEAM...wow, how horrible.

See TT and MM already had one prima donna that he had been bending over backward for since they had been there and they didn't want a second.  Thats why they wanted the extra bonus's to be paid WEEKLY...because they new Moss could be a problem in the lockerroom and could destroy what they had been building.

The really sad thing is, TT and MM have accomodated Farve since they have been in town, giving him past the draft and FA to make his decisions every year, not getting on him for not staying in town and participating in the offseason programs, QB schools and even letting him out of some of the OTAs and mini-camps. They have made exceptions for him that they aren't making for their other players.  They have handled him with "kid gloves".

This year they asked for an earlier decision and he gave it, then reversed it (which they were fine with) then retired again....at that point, with that player who even NOW is still being wishy washy about whether he'll return or not, how can they not move on.  You have to have 100% commitment and Favre has yet to show that this offseason.  Even now he has said several times that he just wants his freedom and he doesn't know what he will do...

Personally I think TT has handled this about as well has he could have.  I also think Farve is self absorbed and needs someone in his inner circle to slap him upside the head and ask him what the hell he's doing.

His pr spin he's putting out is IMO only making him look bad and if he handled this differently he could be holding all the PR/public sentiment cards.

Its a sad time for GB and for Favre...I wish it was different but I don't see this coming to a "happy" ending and IMO TT is handling this about as well as it could be handled from a TEAM management perspective.

This article from SI pretty much sums it up IMO: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/don_banks/07/17/favre.snaps/index.html?eref=sircrc

IMO this is the quote of significance from the article:
Quote
But I'd like to ask Favre this: Do you think you'd be the kind of teammate you'd want to have if you walked in and yanked the rug out beneath Rodgers at this point, just days before the start of training camp? Isn't that the kind of me-first stunt that a respected team leader like Favre was never afraid to call out a teammate for? Isn't that right, Javon Walker?

And thats really what it all boils down to...this whole last couple of weeks Favre is not acting like "Favre"...the Favre we've come to know and respect as a great team guy, a great teammate, and a stand up guy...a "Man".  This is not the way any of us wanted to see Farve go out...Its sad and its just going to get worse.
13  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: What will be Brett's new team? on: July 18, 2008, 09:53:45 AM
Ted Thompson has been showing Favre the door since he got there. Yes - he is about winning- his way. And it's sort of what you want in a General Manager. He does not know how to handle superstars. I still don't know if it's going to bite us in the ass. Yet.

Well let me ask the question then, How do you "handle" superstars?
14  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: Favre's interview with Greta on: July 18, 2008, 07:54:33 AM
Dude. That's a stretch. He retired so that he could be released from the greatest job of his life so he didn't have to play for TThompson?

Next your gonna tell me JFK staged his own assassination.  vader1

I didn't say I think thats how it happened...(might be, I don't know)...I just said I can see how someone could deduce that from the chain of events.

I think its more likely that what happened is Favre happened to touch base with Bevel around the time (june) that the Packers told him they had moved on.  Bevel then got into a theoretical discussion of "well damn we could use you here"....
One thing then probably led to another and I would not be surprised if there were even #s discussed etc...The Vikes are not hurting for cap room either.

Stop and think about TT...what move has he ever made since he's been here that's been done without a lot of pre-thought and just "off the cuff".  He's not a huge risk taker.   No I think the Packers "have the goods" on MN and their going to nail their ass to the wall.  Notice also that there were no "denials" from the Vikes...just a "no comment".

I have now read speculation that Favre was talking to Bevel on a Packers paid for cell phone and that the Packers have all the records for that cell phone because they pay for it.  If that is truly the case then they would also be able to get copies of any text messages that Favre sent as well because records of those are kept.  If Childress called Farve on that cell phone (this is being speculated) then the Vikes just bent themselves over royally.

Like I said its all speculation now but the only way I can see that the Packers have good evidence is if it was their phone and they have copies of all the calls and when they were made.  Otherwise they would have no right or access to the records and would have nothing to go on except hear-say.

I think this is just going to get uglier before its over and its pretty sad if its all true...sad for the Packers, sad for Favre...and sad.....wait...too F'n Funny for the Vikes...  Grin
15  Green Bay Packers / 2008 Green Bay Packers / Re: Favre's interview with Greta on: July 17, 2008, 10:24:47 AM
Meaning what that Favre said he was retired, nowing he wasn't really ready to retire? Just so he could force the Packers hand and make them either release him or trade him because he doesn't want to play for GB anymore? Is that what you meant..?

I have no inside information other than the stuff both Favre and the Packers have said.  I don't know, but I can see how someone could look at the events really since TT has been here, the rumblings every offseason from the Favre camp about personnel, the report by Jay Glazer that Favre asked to be Traded last year after we failed to get Moss, the rumblings from Cook after Farve retired that the Packers didn't want Farve back, the reports that Cook was quietly asking teams if they would be interested in Favre right after Farve retired, the rumblings from Bonita and Scott Favre that the Packers didn't really want Favre back and then Farve asking for his "unconditional release", and now the tampering charge against MN....

Like I said I don't know, and I don't think we ever really will know the whole story but I can see a pattern that a "conspiracy theorist" could look too and say that he planned to do this because he no longer wanted to play for TT.

Either way, I don't think this is going to end very pretty and unfortunately for all parties I think they all will be left with some egg on their faces.  Maybe something can still be worked out but I think the bridge is fully engulfed in flames right now and I don't see any fire engines coming to put it out any time soon.
