So this is going to be the best linebacking corp in a decade.... according to Bob McGinn
The typical talk about this group expounds with very little mention of Poppinga getting BLOWN up in coverage last year. a ... lot... Of course you could easily blame that on Bob Sanders...
My favorite quotes are these about Hawk and the "buzz" about Bishop. It's almost cliche to say that this will be Hawk's year.
Moss said Hawk was assignment-sure in his second season. Sanders expressed appreciation for Hawk’s well-rounded game.
“We ask him to do an awful lot of things and he does them very, very well,” Sanders said. “I’d compare him to a lot of the good players in the league. I definitely don’t agree that he’s not playing physical enough. Hopefully, the times he did get bounced he’ll eliminate some of those.”
Although Bishop was drafted three rounds after Hodge, Moss said it is Bishop who enters training camp as the No. 2 middle linebacker. Sanders went so far as to say Bishop had a “fantastic” off-season.
“I think he has exceptional short-area quickness and speed,” said Moss, who thinks Bishop will be a starter in his career. “If you question anything about his speed it is his long-range speed. But if he continues to get in the correct positions down the field, I don’t think his speed will be a significant question.”
